When creating a sample that’s being used for melody or harmony, I recommend it being 64 samples long, or a multiple of 64. Otherwise, the sample won’t be in tune. It’s possible to tune samples in MilkyTracker, but that’s best left for an intermediate tutorial!
As I mention, there are advantages and disadvantages to creating volume fades in the sample. The biggest disadvantage is that sample playback speed is determined by the note. Higher notes = faster sample playback, lower notes = slower sample playback. This means the length of your notes will be directly related to its pitch.
