Comic Report #107.1 - Black & Blueprints

So I just checked my computer calendar to make sure today was actually Friday.  Okay, cool.  Anyways, hello!  I've had a pretty hectic week this week, moving some remainder of my physical Dead Winter books to a new storage unit, and friend let me tell you those things get heavier every time I gotta move 'em.  That job's done, though, so for the rest of the week I focused on making progress on the next comic page.  There isn't a gamedev report for this one, I got Monday's attack animation document prepped but I put all my time towards inking and starting the paints on this page, so we'll see what I can get for next week.  But for now, here's a bit about the current task.

This is a unique page compared to the ones I am usually making in that I'm literally rendering a diagram of a steam engine.  I prepared for the painting phase by inking all my engine lines on their own layer, which means if I want to erase any of them while I'm painting or paint overtop of them to make a piece of metal look better I don't have to worry about it interfering with my character lineart.  The copper coils around the magnet in panel three is probably a likely recipient of this treatment, since I inked a lot of tiny little black lines to convey the texture of the coils, I'm probably still going to paint my highlights overtop of those details to make it feel more metallic than if all the art was just underneath the inks.

I feel like the background aside from the big machine drawings should be fairly easy, since it's mostly just the side of the big warehouse, a nice flat surface with minimal depth.  There's going to be a lot of word bubbles above that third panel so I'm anticipating I'll make that super easy color blotch-in to help the diagram pop.

Anyways, that's the plan going into the next week.  I'm gonna focus a bit on finishing this page up before I start digging into Monday's gamesprite art.  This update was a lot of plans and I'm-Gonnas, so next week should be fun to see if the plans shake out as expected.  Thank you as always for your patient support.  This week should go a bit easier so I should have some good progress for next Friday.  Until then, have a sPoOkY Halloween!
