TDL AU Art

If you follow me on tumblr you probably know I've been getting into AI: the somnium files, so I doubt this is a surprise lol. But anyway I also watched and read Land of the Lustrous so suddenly I had two TDL AUs... And I wanted to ramble about them so here we are!

Warning! Implied spoilers for AITSF (possibly) and LotL manga (definitely) from here on!

AITSF AU

This AU would pretty much follow the events of the game completely. The character swaps would cause everyone to act a little differently but the plot would be the same.

Also! 90% of the character swaps in this are spoilers lol. I mean I used adults to replace adults, but most of the adults in TDL haven't appeared in the comic yet!

Notably, Sam is in the role of Iris. Max is Ota (NOT a creep in this...I couldn't find a better fit. shrug!). Law Lovely is Mama. The three government characters besides the Amber Death take all the roles related to ABIS because it fit well.

Maybe I'll post the unedited sketches later. Three major characters are gonna be introduced in the next story arc, so at least we don't have to wait for them too long.

LotL AU

This AU would not follow the original storyline! TDL and LotL have very different tones, and I'd feel weird dropping my ocs from their lighthearted original source into something that can get really serious and dark. (Also, I don't think I've gotten a hold on all the themes and symbolism in LotL, so I'd rather not push this AU into a territory I don't understand.)

So! The tone of this AU would never get darker than the LotL anime. But I will draw from the manga for some bits, like the Amber Death going to the moon.

Essentially, Sam gets these extra gold alloy arms and becomes a fighter, and throughout the story she gets to know the other gems better and help them come to terms with their problems. At the end a solution is found to keep the Lunarians from attacking them, and it's a pretty standard happy ending. (Sorry folks, no protagonist corruption arc here! U_U)

I did write out the type of mineral the main characters would be. (I was compelled!) So here's a list!
