19 Bonus - February 2022 - Fingerstyle Booster 5

The goal of this exercise is to build endurance and strength in the left hand. Oftentimes when playing long sequences of bar chords that appear frequently in ones repertoire we experience fatigue - this exercise will help with that issue.  I do suggest to rest your hand whenever you feel tension and come back to it again a few minutes later.

The inspiration for this post, like for the previous booster, also came from flamenco music. Specifically, the harmonic progression in this exercise Dm, C7, Bb7, A Phrygian and A7 is a typical Spanish set of chords.

At the beginning of the pdf we have a very simple pattern just to introduce the chords. These are all bar chords and please note that the second chord, C7, should be played with the first finger for the bar combined with middle and ring finger for the other two tones on the fifth fret. This way you'll leave your pinky free to be used for the C7sus4 chord.

The fingerstyle pattern itself involves fast sixteenth note triplets. In exercise 1 each group of triplets is separated by one eighth note, in exercise 2 these groups are connected and in a few places they have pull-offs with pinky. It's also important to know that each time you start every bar you'll have to play the first eighth note and the first note of the triplet with the thumb.
