Be In My Music Video

I'm making a music video for "All Along" and I want you to be in it.
"All Along" is a song about realizing that we already have everything we need. That there is no magic person or event that is going to give us what we believe we are lacking--but that instead, somewhere within ourselves we already have the strength, courage, knowledge, etc to be the people we dream to me. Of course, it's easier said than done, but the first step in feeling this change is to begin rewriting the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. We all have limiting beliefs: I'm not worthy, I'm broken, I'll never be good enough, I don't like my ___, I'll never be able to ___, etc. If we keep saying these things, there's no way it's going to start feeling any different.
The task:
For this video, I'd like to challenge you to find some limiting belief you find yourself telling yourself, and begin to change that narrative. Imagine you are your best friend in the world. What are you craving to hear from someone you know and love and respect? What would lift you up and comfort you and empower you? That's the message I'd love for you to try to find.
Put on "All Along" and do some thinking on this topic. When you have an idea of what it is you want to say, write it down on a piece of paper. It should be no smaller than a typical piece of printer paper and can be as big as you want. You can be as simple or creative as you want. Phrase it in anyway that feels right for you. Best to use markers over pens so it can be easily read by the camera. (See my 6 year YouTube Anniversary - Message From Your Heart video for reference). Then, turn your camera on (landscape vs portrait is ideal), turn on "All Along" (whichever part feels good to you), try to really feel the words you've written down, and hold up your message. Make sure to hold it there long enough that we can read it.
When you're done, email your video to me at kina@kinagrannis.com with the subject "All Along Music Video". You can send via google drive if the file is too big, or a file sharing site like wetransfer. All submissions must be sent in by the end of Sunday, September 23rd.
I may not be able to include every submission in the music video for the sake of time, but I will certainly be watching and loving every single one regardless. This is also selfishly just a way for me to get to know you all more personally :)

I hope I submitted my video in time. The message I sent was one that a good friend said to me to encourage me to believe in myself more.

It has taken me literally decades of my life to understand that true happiness is a choice we make for ourselves every day. Or not. But if you atexwaiting for happiness to find you, you’ll be waiting forever. Happiness is a choice. I try to wake up each morning and choose happiness, and go to bed each night knowing that I made at least one good choice that day. And as we all know do well, happiness is contagious. If we choose happiness for ourselves, other happy people will choose to spend their time with us and so happiness is multiplied. I find the most happiness in loving and generosity. I feel at my happiest when ‘my people’ and my pets are happy. The very hardest part is knowing when someone you love is not choosing happiness, because until they do, you are kind of stuck. No one is responsible for someone else’s happiness but we are all responsible for our own and our own choice of happiness will help others choose it too. I love your song ‘Happy’ and I do feel like a room without a roof! And when sad things happen, I try to choose to see the thing that the sad event taught me so I can learn and grow from the experience. This makes no experience a waste and that makes me happy, too! Smile because you are all amazing and even the loss of one person changed our world a little and that makes each of us equally important. How cool is that?

I really love those moments, for only that up-front acceptance can bring me to them. Then I have to also accept that I might just be OK, no matter what else is on my flaw list. A very good place to be.

I'm OK now. I see my many, many flaws. And yet I'm so amazed and thankful that I'm loved by so many great folks. So I decided to trust them more than my own negative self-impressions and harsh self-judgment. My first task is to accept each of my flaws, and only then, from a place of love, will I let myself work on them. This path has proven to be so much less self-destructive than my old path of self-ridicule for having the flaws in the first place, and for my lack of progress on them. Even when I fail to make the progress I'd like, I make myself love and accept that too, which gives me both permission to take a break, and the energy to try again. Now, how am I going to fit THAT on a piece of paper?
