Hey KG Records family!
Oh my goodness, where to start. How about I just bullet point this thing?? Cool.
"California" - Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but one goal I had for this new album was to have a music video for every song on the album--something I've not come close to doing in the past. As of today, 9/10 songs on In The Waiting have videos! Most of you probably know the story behind "California" by now (and if you don't, read this)--it's a song I wrote during my 100 days trapped in Jakarta facing 5 years in jail. It's a song about longing and acceptance, missing the people and places I loved and not knowing when or if I would return home to them. When it came to making a video for this song, the idea of trying to do anything particularly complex or creative felt wrong, much in the same way adding any production to the song felt wrong when I recorded the album version. Instead all I could picture was this--sitting by the ocean at home in California, singing the song, and honoring all the memories and feelings from my time in Jakarta.
Crazy Rich Asians - Holy smokes, everyone. What a whirlwind these past couple weeks have been! For those who don't know--I had the GIGANTIC honor of getting to perform "Can't Help Falling In Love" in the wedding scene of the movie Crazy Rich Asians. The film came out a little over two weeks ago, and the response has been incredible! It was the #1 movie in America for 2 weeks in a row!! I cannot say enough great things about this film and all the people behind it. I've seen it in theaters three times, and every time I laughed and cried and had a freak out moment where I thought I might have to run out of the theater because I was about to appear on a giant screen in front of me. It is so fun, beautiful, funny, moving, and it represents such a big and important cultural moment. I really hope everyone gets the chance to see it!
So You Think You Can Dance - Ok. You guys are the first to know. I just found out that my version of "Can't Help Falling In Love" will be danced to on So You Think You Can Dance this Monday!!! I am freaking out! I'll be on a plane to Barcelona when it airs, so please tune in on my behalf!!
Wedding Officiants! Jesse and I co-officiated two of our best friends' wedding a couple weekends ago and it was such an incredible experience! As two people that spend most of their time thinking and writing about love and life and everything in between, getting the opportunity to craft a ceremony around these themes based on two people we love so incredibly much was one of the coolest things ever. Love is so great :)
Wedding Anniversary! Speaking of weddings, Jesse and I are celebrating our 5 year anniversary today (and 15 total years of being together)!! Mostly we'll be prepping for tour... but don't worry, we'll be squeezing in a celebratory sushi dinner tonight :) It's crazy to reflect on the many chapters of our relationship. We have changed and grown so much, but always ultimately together, pushing and pulling each other into new improved versions of ourselves, and I couldn't be more grateful to have found such an amazing partner to go through life with.
This has gotten too long. Ok I just scrolled up and saw the novel I've prepared for you, so I'm going to cut myself off. I have so much more to say but I'll save it for another time!
Btw, if the monthly Coffee Date Hangout is one of your perks--don't forget to tune in this Sunday! You can get the private link here. Very excited to catch up with you all :)
Last thing! The Europe tour starts in less than a week and I'm so excited to get out there and see you all! Get tickets at kinagrannis.com/tour if you haven't yet!
Thanks for the company and support and for making all this touring possible!
