Kina Diaries: Calculus Nightmare

Guess what I just woke up from? 😑 You will be the death of me, high school-nightmares! Anyone else (who's not still in high school) still get these? I get them a few times a year. Generally I find myself back in high school and suddenly realize I forgot to attend a class ALL YEAR LONG and now the final is today. Horrifying. But today's was a little different... This time i found myself out to sea on a fishing boat, having a grand ol' time, until I climbed aboard to the top deck and someone passed out a homework assignment. Calculus. I don't remember calculus! I then spent the rest of the dream frantically trying to re-teach myself calculus (from a text book invented by my dream-brain so clearly there's no way any of it possibly made sense). Torture. The good news is I woke up and remembered I never have to take another test for as long as I live. And I never have to learn calculus again. One of my dear dear Patrons is actually the reason I had calculus on the brain. You know who you are. I forgive you ;) Ok happy Saturday, folks! Go forth and live your lives! xo Kina

haha they're the worst! you're lucky your dreams have ended!

This is an old post, but I found it so relatable I had to comment. lol I have SO had that dream where I have not attended class all year, but the most reoccurring dream (which happened to me all of college) was the beginning of term dream where I cannot find my classroom and I end up missing all my classes on the first day! AHH! So terrible! haha So glad I am not alone on this one. But, also glad college is over and I don't have these dreams anymore! :P

Oh, the armchair dream analysis in me wants to speak to all that *SO* bad, but most importantly, I want to say how awesome it is that none of us have to re-learn calculus. The best part is that I'm an engineer, and I don't use calculus daily. I have no idea what our school system was thinking.

I have this exact stress dream at least twice a year. Not so much calculus homework on the top deck of a boat (sounds hilarious tho), but the notion that I forgot to memorize my class schedule and now it's finals time and too late to cancel! And like you.. it's always MATH! Blehh.. Your sharing just prompted me to look up why so many people have this same dream. Just googling on this topic, sounds as though we have these dreams as a means to deal with missed opportunities, procrastination, or just general stress in our waking life. I can imagine you deal with a lot of deadlines yourself, but yet you seem to do it all in stride. What a great trait that is!

Funny that you ask on this very day! I had a school nightmare myself this morning. I suddenly found myself back at the beginning of my last year at school (which was a very old-fashioned boys-only grammar school run by Franciscan Friars); in other words, I suddenly found myself back in 1981, not a time I would like to return to, although I am 53 now. It was the first day that the school year had started in earnest. That is, we had already had homework, but in the morning, an hour before school would start, I realized I had not done any homework. Panic ensued, friends were making sneering, unhelpful remarks – and then I finally woke up. Relief! -- It was not the first time I had a school nightmare, in fact I have one every five years or so. They are generally quite realistic, which in a way makes them all the more irritating.

i've actually never had the school/test dream! my stress dreams include: driving a car and the brakes don't work, trying to get somewhere but just can't for a multitude of reasons, and trying to get a horde of people out of my store after close haha. i've been told that these mean i have control issues.. 🤔

lol!!!

Hahaha!!! 😂 Seriously though—there has been times when I wake up and need to look at my diploma to reassure myself that I finished college. 😳

I tend to do well on tests, so I've never had a nightmare like this. Guess I should count myself lucky. I'm more concerned that I, too, have forgotten most of my calculus. I found some old college notes from a really advanced calculus class (Advanced Engineering Mathematics, or how to solve unsolvable problems as I called it), and I didn't even recognize my handwriting, much less how I got from step to step.

No calculus dreams for me - last night (from 4-8am lol) I actually dreamt I was at the botanical gardens in Kauai 😎🏝⛱ I'm a brat, I know 😬 I do have frustrating dreams sometimes, but usually they're of me getting lost on a running trail and going round in circles for hours while other people seem to be finding their way just fine lol 😝🏃🏼

It may have been :x hi Jim! 😄

I hate to tell you this, but I still have the exam nightmare, several times a year, 45 years after graduating high school! The dream is almost always the same. I go into the exam room, open the exam paper, and realize that I do not know the answer to a single question! I always wondered if it is a flashback resulting from my rather desultory study habits, whereby I would cram the night before my exam, and hope that I had covered what might be on my exam!

lol! clean laundry and toilet paper! hi Eric! I think you're the one who gave Kina this idea, right? lol. this is very interesting!😁

🙊❤️ I have the "year end and forgot a class" ones too, especially where it's senior year and I needed it to graduate. My main school ones are where I can't remember my schedule and then when I look for it in my backpack it's full of just wrong stuff like clean laundry and fresh toilet paper.

I used to have dreams like that more often when I was fresh out of high school (or maybe like within 5 years or so from having graduated), but I still have them from time to time and, yes, when I do it is almost always a nightmare. in fact, the farther removed I get from my high school days, the weirder those types of dreams/nightmares get because I forget more and more of what my school day routine was, so my nightmare brain has to make up more and more weird stuff to fill in the blanks! lol!

Hahahah tragic! 😭❤️☺️
