Kina Diaries: Making food pretty

My lunch got me thinking about food presentation. In recent years I've found a lot of joy in making my meals presentable. Here's why:

1. It makes me infuse some love and care into the preparation of my meal instead of just mindlessly throwing something together.

2. It makes me slow down and appreciate my food more.

3. Looking at it makes me happy.

To me, food is already one of life's greatest joys, and making it pretty just adds to the enjoyment. Anyone else have fun with making meals pretty?

Also, I asked this before and it was so fun for me that I'm doing it again. What are your favorite go-to meals and recipes? Share! Maybe I'll try cooking someone's meal this month :D

Happy almost weekend, everyone.

That looks great! Quick question: Any ideas what to add in yoghurt to make it more interesting? I really like having it with many of my meals but was wondering if you had your own ways of jazzing it up a little

hmm, go-to meals and recipes. quite frankly, I like so many different kinds of foods, I'm not sure I even have any one go-to meal. btw, your spinach and kale salad sounds pretty good 😊

I definitely put thought into how the chips are arranged in my nachos, and it's always different because they're always different, but it has more to do with form than function: it grinds my gears when some of the cheese hits a sticky-up chip at the edge and falls off the plate, at which point it is irredeemable. With that said! I definitely appreciate good geometry, for instance your appled plate. Nonagram more like nom-agram am I right??

When I was still doing sushi, a head chef from a high end sushi bar was sat in front of me as a sort of test. I was super anxious. I had to really think outside the box with regards to presentation. With sushi, other than freshness I've learned height and colors are key. We recently made Tom Kha Soup (coconut milk soup) with tofu and mushrooms at home. I'll try to get you the recipe later.

It's 1am and now I got hungry... Looks delicious

I don't know what my favorite dish is but I'm always craving pho 80% of the week

My favorite is Penne Ala Vodka (or Penne Ala Ian as my friends say). I make that with some fresh garlic bread. And if I want to make it spicy, I add some Serrano Peppers. Takes an hour start to finish and I just lifted it from here and modify for taste. My pro tip is cook the paste in the sauce for a bit before serving. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/19919/penne-a-la-vodka-ii/

My favourite dish has to be mango chicken! Although right now I am not eating a lot of meat so I swap the chicken for some good vegetables! It's a dish my family cook in the Philippines! (Grab fresh mangoes from our mango trees in the backyard!) Here is a recipe for you Kina! Although it's different to how we cook it! 😊 http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2762671/creamy-chicken-and-mango-curry

That sounds soooo good! I like to prepare tuna salad with diced jalapeños and celery for the week then hollow out bell peppers and stuff it inside for a quick thing I can eat when I'm really busy. Sometimes, I'll also toss the tuna salad with Kale, cut bell peppers, and red onions, with a light balsamic vinaigrette for a yummy salad ☺️
