Personally, I feel that from this episode moving forward, the show got a lot more vibrant, because this is the episode that established all these characters as more than just background filler. For the most part, this is the point where they drastically dialed back the copy/pasting of generic ponies to fill the scenes, which makes Ponyville feel much more alive. I very much appreciate it when a show has respect for every single character regardless of how much or how little they bring to the plot. It might not be at the same level as how Steven Universe treated its background characters, but it's still far more than what many shows do.

2023-05-28 22:01:13 +0000 UTCAbout that whole wedding/engagement ring thing, two tips. For one, there are sets in which you get a fancy engagement ring that you can pull part of the ring off to get a simpler wedding ring, so essentially two rings for the price of one. Two, the thing that makes rings so expensive is usually the diamond, but you can get rings with other gemstones that honestly look shinier and/or far more colorful than diamonds, plus they could hold a variety of meanings, yet they cost a very small fraction of what a diamond ring would. You could also try other metals. In the end though, it's up to each couple to decide what item (if any) will represent the love and commitment they have. I've seen rings, yes, but also tattoos, necklaces, and sometimes nothing at all as they believe the love and commitment themselves need no material representation.

2023-05-28 21:42:51 +0000 UTCI am still mon season 1 of your reactions but when I saw this I had to watch. fun fact that thing you saw for a split split second was actually bronies in horse mask another shout out to the fandom which is what this entire episode was the show ended on season 3 that was the end of FiM there was nothing more hasbro had after that but we the fandom embraced it and hasbro was like "wait ADULTS with money like this and they will PAY for the shows content.... CHA CHING! and thus the show got extended but beyond hasbro's dream the staff saw how much we loved them how we actually knew who was doing what even the background animators where getting loved and so the writers and animators and story board artist all gave it their all to push this past what it was meant to be to the now lore it is

2023-05-28 11:45:51 +0000 UTCMost people have already pointed them out but just for a condensed version these are the references: The Doctor is a reference to Doctor who, and in the MLP fandom he's often paired with either Derpy or Roseluck, who is the red haired pony we see him grab when he speaks his last line in the episode! The Doctor who thing was a meme for SO long in the fandom and it was so cool that this basically canonized a lot of headcanons in a really fun way. Derpy and her muffins is an obvious one, but they rlly leaned into how much she loves muffins and I love them for that <3 Lyra and bonbon aka "special agent sweetie drops" are an actual couple, but due to censorship (most likely) they just had them being "best friends" which is actually pretty common in mlp when it comes to same sex ships. They have some references to their relationship throughout the rest of the show so keep your eyes peeled haha Dj-pon-3 aka Vinyl Scratch and the pony she was jamming with, Octavia, are almost ENTIRELY fandom made. They show up in the earlier seasons but it was Nowacking and Ellimonty who really made the characters into their own! They are both the non-canon but widely accepted "Voice actors" for the both of them, and they're also pretty much a couple lol. They are roommates in non-canon content, but this episode made them ACTUAL roommates which hyped the hell out of the fandom! It's wild to me that two background characters with hardly any characterization got their own splotlight just because of the fandom. It was SUPER rewarding to see that though! People have already pointed out the Steven Magnet thing, and they described it better than I could so I'll skip over that bit. The Gummy bit was hilarious as well, though idt it was a reference to anything, just a funny joke. The three well-dressed ponies we see at the bowling alley are a reference to "The big Lebowski", and even their cutie marks have fun jabs at the movie! During the moment where Vinyl and Octavia are picking up a bunch of background ponies, we can freeze-frame it to see them literally jump a shark! Obviously the background ponies are just really fun to see all together, but one in particular- Button, the little brown colt, is a huge fandom character as well! He was given a whole mother and his character is that he loves playing video games, usually with sweetie-bell. The fandom really took to shipping those two lol. Mainly because of the parody song "Don't mine at night" but featuring button and sweetie bell playing minecraft! Or- ponycraft, lol. And ofc, twilights staff! So the "twilight princess" meme was rlly popular around the time, specifically the image of twilight with the robe and scepter given to her by discord as a prop in that one frame of that one episode lmao. That image became a meme but MOSTLY the staff became a BIG meme in the fandom! It's purpose was to show up everywhere with no explanation and it would pop up so often in fandom content, so It was really funny to see that it was the thing to trip them all. And yes, you were right about the freeze frame! There is a sneaky frame in there so if you wanna see it for yourself I suggest going to find it! Spoilers ahead: It's some of the crew wearing horse masks SKDJSKs I think that's all the references at this point! If I missed any lmk, but It was SO fun getting to see how the town viewed the mane six and their friendship problems. Sweetie even says "Maybe it's a friendship problem, and it'll all be over in a half an hour or so" which honestly was maybe the funniest joke in the episode for me at the time. But it was just so cool seeing the mane six in the BACKGROUND for once, taking up the spot the background ponies featured in this episode usually play! This episode is kinda mid-tier if you don't really get the references tbh, but I'm glad they managed to work in a plot that anyone could enjoy! When this episode came out it sent the community into a happy riot, and there's only ONE other episode that even comes close to this episodes level. But hehe, that's for later!

2023-05-27 11:29:13 +0000 UTCJust to add on to Master119's comment above, this was the 100th episode, so the writer wanted to make a tribute to the fan community that had allowed them to continue past the 3rd season, when most cartoons reach the enough-episodes-for-syndication mark and are forced to end. Thus, the 'Steven Magnet' subtitle-induced joke name became canon, Derpy/"Muffins" came back with a new voice and name, Doctor Hooves was officially named and even got the Fourth Doctor scarf shout out at the end there, Octavia and Lyra and Bon Bon were also officially named in-show (even shouting out the merch name for Bon Bon being Sweetie Drops, for legal reasons, and giving a reason for both to be true), and a ton of fan favourites got a good amount of screen time, even officially making the commonly paired Octavia and DJ Pon-3/Vinyl Scratch room-mates! I'm sure if they were allowed, Lyra and Bon Bon would have outright been a couple rather than "best friends", but they did what they could. To your comments: The engagement ring is given on announcement of engagement, prior to the wedding itself, so the cost of that one shouldn't really apply to the cost of the wedding rings, which are the ones exchanged in the ceremony. The DJ pony, Vinyl Scratch, first appeared in the first season, DJ-ing the disaster fashion show, then showed up to DJ the royal wedding in the second season and made regular minor appearances from then on. And, finally, that one frame you noticed? That's a photo of five of the crew wearing horse masks. xD
