❤️ 🍵 Tea’s Recommendations 🍵 ❤️ [February 2023] [Things I Like That You Might Like Too]

Yo, Teacups!

If you haven’t seen one of these posts before, this is just what it says on the tin - a recommendations post. Sometimes I get caught in a cycle of the same movies, books, activities, and whatever else. If you also suffer from this, I hope this small collection of recommendations can be of some help.

P.S. These are obviously just things I like and if you don’t like them too, then that’s absolutely a-okay ❤️

January is a new beginning for us all. So, let’s kick things off with some fresh media and ways to spend our downtime.

Series:

Happy Valley:

In this troubled town, it’s a bit fecking grim! But then again, that’s just the north of England!

Happily it’s also incredibly binge-worthy. If you love badass grandmas, dysfunctional families and exploring the aftershocks of generational trauma, Happy Valley is just what you need.

Follow Catherine as she balances her work as a police officer, caring for her troubled grandson, and getting revenge on the man who ruined her daughter. Hold onto your cuppas, it’s gonna be a bit of ride!

Everyone Else Burns:

Huzzah! It’s the end of the world! Or at least, it’s the practice run!

Meet the Lewis family. Repressed, strained and exactly like everyone else - except, of course, for the fact that they’re in a fanatical religion who believes the end is very much neigh!

If you love people being awkward, struggling between their beliefs and their wants, and general British oddness - this could be just the ticket!

Primal:

It’s a caveman and a T-rex being best buddies. Is there anymore to say?

Feel Good:

Wanna feel giddy, and embarrassed and utterly enchanted with two awkward lesbians?! I knew you would! Join Mae and George as they fall in lust, love and sometimes right on their faces. Full of complexity and grey areas, its just a really lovely story about people caring for each other, despite not always knowing how.

Movies:

Chicken Run:

“No chicken escapes from Tweedy’s farm!”

Well, we’ll see about that! Watch a bunch of animated chickens form a plan of escape from their prison coop. Great animation, it’ll make you laugh, and the villains are the perfect blend of hilarious and dastardly. I mean, they are from the North, so, it makes sense!

My Neighbours the Yamadas:

One of the less appreciated Ghibli films, My Neighbours the Yamadas is a lovely little movie, perfect for settling down at the end of the day. Based on the popular Japanese comic, the movie follows the inconsequential and wholly relatable lives of the Yamada clan, navigating work, school and family life. It’s cozy, it’s cute, it’s an hour and a half of “mm, lovely”.

Activities:

Move Your Furniture Around:

There’s no better way to get in touch with your inner child than to move your shit around and think “ah, feng shui”. Try the bed in up against the wall, the dresser in the corner, move that neglected plant into the sunlight. Have fun playing around with your environment.

Send Someone a Thank You Note:

It can be a text to your friend, a post-it to your mom, a kind word on a torn-off piece of paper. Gratitude keeps us grounded and helps us be better people. It’s really easy to see what we don’t have, or how things could be better, but showing appreciation for the people in our lives is a great way to make everyone’s day better.

Go for a Night Drive to Nowhere:

And by nowhere, I mean MacDonalds. Smartie McFlurry, yes please :)

Brush Your Teeth More Often:

I’m serious. Good hygiene and sparkly teeth will make us feel better.

Romance Yourself:

Change your sheets, light a candle, create a warm and cozy ambience.

Then run yourself a bath, dress in fresh pjs and climb into your lovely bed. After that, whatever floats your boat: gobble a romance movie, a smutty manga, erotic fiction, role-plays, whatever makes you feel like a giggly teenager. Have fun with comfort and escapism.

Music:

This Hell - Rina Sawayama

World’s Smallest Violin - AJR

Here You Come Again - Dolly Parton

Purge the Poison - MARINA

Karma - Taylor Swift

The Horses - Daryl Braithwaite

Tell Me Ma - Sham Rock

Seize the Power - YONAKA

Crazy - Gnarls Barkley

And that’s my humble offer, guys. Stay safe, drink water and get some rest.

All the best,

Tea

If I may recommend 2 songs I am obsessed with right now that get my spirits up and motivated: - Kingdom by Downstait A rock song that’s all about keeping your freedom and building YOUR kingdom and being the best you can and want to be. - Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder An upbeat and positive song that speaks to me about that there’s nothing that will- well- break your stride, and you have to keep on moving.

Coby-O

Been jamming to these songs over the last week: Adam Lambert - Ghost Town Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become John Newman - Love Me Again Cafuné - Tek It Fox Stevenson - Dreamland Fox Stevenson - Bruises The Ink Spots - If I Didn't Care Julien-K - This Machine ; yes from Sonic Heroes, this shit is fire AISHA, Jamison Boaz, Arc System Works - Love the Subhuman Self Ark Patrol - Sorrow Doesn't Resurrect Linkin Park - Burn it Down If you give em a listen, I hope you gain what I got from em. As for movies, I recently saw Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, I highly recommend them if you're looking for a laugh! I watched the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, and that put me on my ass! If you're looking for a cool setting, and characters to get attached to, and don't mind cartoon violence, it is very graphic, then Edgerunners is a must watch! Have a good time y'all, hope these work out for you!

Chicken Run? It's been well over 10 years since I've seen it. Great movie

Jmann1892

Primal is good. Chicken Run is great. I think World's Smallest Violin was done better by Mr. Krabs though.

I have to firmly disagree with you all on Chicken Run, that movie is my nightmare fuel. Wallace and Grommit are great, but those chicken have teeth. Also may or may not have been the movie my parents used to freak me out when I was real little.

Great recommendations Tea! Love that you pick both Primal and Chicken Run for viewing and definitely gonna try moving my furnitures and driving at night. Thanks again Tea for the recommendations.

I'm american so I'm not really familiar with any current british tv shows. I did hear about Primal, it's made by the same dude who did Samurai Jack. I do remember Chicken Run! they used to have that on Cartoon Network and I had no idea it was a stop motion british movie. Then when I saw the Wallace and Grommit movie I thought "This looks a lot like Chicken Run".

Thanks for the reccs Tea, my God, I haven't thought of Chicken Run in maybe literally decades, wtf, I can say that about things now!

As someone who sticks with the same media content all the time this is something I will use for some variety. Thanks Tea!! 😊 Ps Chicken Run 2 is coming this year. Perfect time to rewatch the first

Just a random comment, I love the term for us, Teacups. Thank you for the smile it put on my face this morning, Miss Tea.

Chicken Run is one of the pinnacles of modern cinema. It's funny but everytime I watch it I also forget how goddamn bleak and devastating it can be. It's basically 'Baby's First Holocaust Drama'. Also I wrote a Thank You note just yesterday! Let the owner of a small business I regular at that I appreciate everything she does and even though times are tough and she feels bleak right now I'm still happy she's here and I love her and her lil bakery and she's a valued part of the community. The smile she had reading it was straight dopamine to my veins. <3
