And that is admirable. Really. It's a good thing.
But sometimes, just sometimes it really is okay to not rise above it, to not turn the other cheek, to simply, non-maliciously say "fuck off".
Consider it your earned right to not tolerate other people's nonsense.
This doesn't mean actively be a dick, just tell people who are being a dick that you want no part of their dick-ish-ness.

Sometimes to maintain the peace you have to not avoid the conflict but to verbally constructively challange it head on. That way I keep the peace. It takes continues effort. Every day, I make that choice. Don't make me regret it, because in the alternative noone wins.

It’s not okay to always be a dick, but nor is it okay to have no capacity to be a dick. Some things call for the ability to put your niceness aside.
