Classic space laser sound from spring
Added 2023-08-15 17:02:01 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite sounds is the unearthly chirps that lake ice makes when a rock skips over it.
However, it is not easy to freeze a lake to demonstrate it... but there is a surprisingly easy way to make a similar sound. In this video, I show how little effort it takes to achieve 'acoustic dispersion'.
Share if you know of other ways. Could be fun to make a full video with examples and an explanation of the physics behind acoustic dispersion.

Hmm, I don't see any issues with the playback? The two-second 'pause' is intentional to give time to read the text and consider what the simple solution is ;o)

2023-08-15 21:30:47 +0000 UTCIf I remember it right they hit a long cable holding a mast, so yes - a long metal wire under tension. I also have a hard time coming up with how else a laser blaster should sound? Guess they just chose it perfectly - making it an iconic sound. For me, the very fast change from high to low pitch signals speed. Like the Doppler shift from something moving very fast by - like at near light speed ;o)
