Radioactive Mushrooms vs. Affordable Gamma Spectrometer | This beats all Geiger counters!

Final video of the year. As mentioned in my previous Patreon video, I learned a lot from making videos in 2021. This final video is no exception.

I take my first steps into the world of gamma spectrometry. And man, do I enjoy it a lot. It is like discovering and learning about radioactivity all over again!

I've always had this need or desire to know 'why'? So having a tool that can tell me not only if something is radioactive, but also why it is radioactive, is just my thing :)

Hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I enjoyed making it. And thanks to RadiaScan for donating the RadiaCode-101 to make it all possible.

Happy New Year! Thanks for the support in 2021. See you in 2022. I will do my best to make it an awesome year.

After seeing your video on the Radiacode I had to go out and order one. It just arrived today. It’s an amazing device. I’ve had a lot of fun so far detecting the Am241 in my smoke detectors. The spectrum function is great and it’s hard to believe such a small device can do that. I can’t wait to take it out with me to different places. One thing I was wondering, when it comes to background radiation spectra is there a specific value that correlates to cosmic rays specifically? I think it’d be interesting to know what percentage of my background is due to cosmic vs earthbound sources. Love all your videos, keep it up!

Hi Jacob! No, sorry, I don't have a promo link. I guess the shipping will be including import fees, VAT, taxes etc. for some areas. I have the same issue, if I want something shipped from the US :( I have yet to test it against my strongest pitchblende sample. I genuinely try to limit my work near that thing... But it is a good idea for the uranium/thorium video I make at some point. I am a total noob when it comes to gamma spectrometry and have saved the U/Th tests on purpose. U/Th have complex, long decay chains with a lot of small gamma peaks but no major, clear indicators as with for example Cs-137. I will probably also need a lead 'castle' to shield from background radiation and test for much, much longer than half an hour. So have a little patience. I am sure that my skills are what limits the possibilities of the RadiaCode x)

WOW! Do you happen to have a promo link for this device? I would love to get one if the shipping cost wasn't so high to ship from Russia! I would also love to know how well it does with high levels of radiation. Similar to your comparison from a few years ago comparing the gamma scout, 701A, and the Soeks Defender in "Three Gieger Counters Challenged". I would love to see what this new RadiaCode 101 thinks of your pitchblende!
