Patreon listened! It's all back on track

By now, you should've gotten the good news from Patreon -- they listened, and are NOT going to go ahead with the controversial fee structure change they proposed last week!

Read Jack Conte's post here: “We messed up. We’re sorry, and we’re not rolling out the fees change.”

Although social media freaks out if things aren't fixed within hours, all things considered, a one-week turnaround is really, really fast. Yeah, Patreon's radio silence during the week was kind of concerning, but given how bad communication got them into this mess in the first place, it's understandable they wanted to only communicate their apology once they had everything in place. (Patreon still wants to try to fix the "stolen perks" and "double-charging" problem, but from here on, they'll be working with and communicating with creators and fans to figure out a better solution -- which as they admit, they should have done in the first place)

So all that said, I'm going to play Copykitten, instead of Grudger. I only speak for myself, and it's okay if you feel differently, but Patreon does have my trust again -- even the trust is slightly bruised. (At least, I trust Patreon a hell of a lot more than PayPal or Google AdSense, both platforms which have a long history of screwing over users, including yours truly)

For those of you who removed your monthly pledge in protest of Patreon's fee change, you can re-pledge again, if you want -- your boycott worked hella well, so, thank you! :)

However, it needs to be said: I am not loyal to Patreon -- I'm loyal to you. I know that's cheesy, but I mean it. You're the ones who support me, financially and creatively and emotionally. Patreon's just a platform to gather on.

And people > platforms, always.

So while I'll stay on Patreon for now, here's other ways you can follow/support me -- just in case anything else weird happens!

Thank you again all so much. :) Joy.js will still be out in 5 days' time, on December 20th. See you soon!

I'm also feeling positive about the changes, while recognising and understanding that it's going to take time and work to earn back others' trust. This is a sentiment I 100% feel. Thanks for expressing it so succinctly: "I am not loyal to Patreon -- I'm loyal to you."

I know I was kinda late to making this, but I thought this was an interesting visual in response to Patreon's. The December version is showing the result if you pay $1 pledges. https://imgur.com/gIbYEbh

That's a great news. Nevertheless is it still possible to consider setting up an alternative for monthly donations? Unfortunately Patreon didn't have my trust and there is now an history for that :( > At least, I trust Patreon a hell of a lot more than PayPal or Google AdSense +1
