Development Update #5 - September 10th, 2018

So as we mentioned in our last update, Rob, who creates the renders for the game, has now started his one-week birthday break. We’ve paused rendering for that time and are focusing on finalising the script and beginning work on Episode 2.

In today’s post we’ll talk more about the story in Episode 1 as well as a couple of big things we’ve decided to add that we think you’ll love.

Firstly, we’re working on an Android version of the game, which will hopefully be released alongside the Windows and Mac versions of Episode 1, and will be included with each future Episode.

Secondly, animations! We’re looking to add animations to the game, that we’ll use in key scenes. The plan is to use them sparingly, and importantly to make sure that they’re actual animations of a high quality, rather than just a back and forth between still images. What we want to avoid is an immersion-breaking jump between a high quality still image down to a poor quality animation.

Animation may be something that we decide to save for Episode 2 and onwards, as it depends on how soon we can create them to a high standard before it impacts our release window. We may also have to put them on hold altogether until we can gain more support and invest in better rendering equipment.

If we do make any test animations in the meantime that we’re happy with, we will be sure to share them with Patrons for your feedback. So keep an eye out!

Finally, some more info about the story! If you want to go into Episode 1 with an open mind and avoid story spoilers, read no further!

Spoilers.

In Episode 1 there are no intercourse scenes (a slow build-up is the best build-up), but there is obviously nudity and there are several minor, sexually suggestive moments. There is an oral scene that no main character is physically involved in, but that Eleanor witnesses. It's an event she finds extremely difficult, and your decision about what to do in that moment will start to influence her behaviour and opinions. Whatever you decide to do, it may have consequences for both you and the people involved.

Not all the sex in the game is going to be porn-worthy and professional, and that's a point we want to get across. Eleanor is a virgin, so sexual encounters may be awkward and embarrassing until she grows in experience and confidence. The point of High Life is that the transition into adulthood, especially for an impressionable girl, isn't always sunshine and roses. With that change come new, sometimes scary moments.
