Q&A 15: Mini answers round-up

William Cole writes:

"Can you finally reveal who WOULD win in a fight between a living carpet, giant sloth, and automated one-man band?"

It's a trick question. Living carpet envelops giant sloth, giant sloth subdues automated one-man band, automated one-man band incinerates living carpet.

"What are you reading/ watching/ listening to that you really like and or really dislike?"

I am in the process of compiling my 2022 albums of the year list, so I won't pre-empt that. I don't waste time watching things I don't like, but today I did hear the worst song I have heard in some years. It's just exquisitely awful in every way. Be sure to stay past the obsequious pre-amble for the full sweep. It only gets better/worse as it goes on.

In terms of fiction, the last book I read and enjoyed was 'The Seaplane On Final Approach' by Rebecca Rukeyser. I've been a bit slack on my reading in 2022 but will pick things up over Christmas I hope.

"Your depiction of Cricket in the "SGR universe" is single-handedly responsible for sparking my interest in the sport. However, I'm in the US, and can't find a good place to watch the sport. Do you know where I can watch? Any plans on featuring more Cricket in your work (please)?"

Giant Days 50, the big cricket issue, is one of my favourite issues of the series, and very self-indulgent because I knew most people reading Giant Days wouldn't have a frame of reference for the sport. But with the series scheduled to finish soon after, it didn't really matter. Such are the rigours of international sporting TV rights that when I tried to visit ESPN+'s website to answer your question, I couldn't get past their geoblocked landing page. I suspect your best bet is a VPN and the highlights on a free-to-air national broadcaster. I don't have sports pay TV, I just watch the highlights on the BBC, or listen on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.

Claire asks:

"Is there a subcultural aesthetic or style of dress you've ever wanted to include but not found a character for?"

Yes. I invite you to read a piece I read a few months ago titled "When Medieval Mysticism Conquers the Dance Floor", which is accompanied by a number of very evocative photographs. I'm not sure know I get to where this article is leading me but I know that when I get there, I'll have a whale of a time. It can't be so long before my comics go technopagan.

Comments

The comments below that Van Zant song on YouTube are quite the eye opener.

Wayne Assiratti

I don't want to give that video another view, but I have no doubt it's the worst music imaginable.
