Revisions II

I wrote in an earlier post about fixing the first page of Steeple; the first three all needed little fixes, and what greater pleasure is there than flipping backwards and forwards between two versions of the same thing to play "spot the difference"?

Again, the original drawings weren't necessarily bad but they didn't serve the purpose they were meant to. I'd had a few weeks off drawing and a few months off drawing proper comic pages so I wasn't 100% by any means.

Page 2:

The original top-down first panel wasn't a very exciting composition, or a particularly good scene-setter. Panel 3 lacked punch, and I'd drawn Tom's head a bit short, so made him bigger for a bit more "biff".

Page 3:

I'd drawn the same exact head on Tom in the first and last panel. It wasn't a particularly good head the first time and it was prettty tired the second time.

I was also wary of solid blacks when I started - I don't remember why. It was February. A long time ago. The original pages featured a bit too much lazy grey. Drawing the NEMS comic that starts on Monday has given me a lot of practice at working with solid blacks in comics. I intend to practice some more. By Christmas I will be indistinguishable from Mike Mignola.

I love this!

Pierpaolo Di Camillo

I particularly like the purple highlights with the solid blacks. It gives his coat an allusion to a bishop's attire.
