What Does It Mean to Be Authentic in Business?

What Does It Mean to Be Authentic in Business?

Thanks Devin. I will say no to things that I don't feel good about and deliver value to others above anything else.

Great advice. When I first started taking brand deals, I would be so focused on “professionalism” and often take communication advice from friends in corporate. It totally stifled my ability to communicate with brands. I’ve totally loosened up and started actually creating relationships with people in the industry

Ya know, I was thinking about this the other day. You are right, I should unburden myself.

Great talk! I don't work with large corporations or get large offers on collabs, and not sure how many here do, but small brands/business might be something to consider and how to work with the damage control of saying no? Especially in our paradigm of social media collaborations. I had a wave of doing workshops and lectures about metalworking across the US. The amount of work to plan and execute them is as much as any job. In an attempt to grow my small brand I said yes to any and all that came my way. The work load became to much. I grabbed the attention of a large YouTube personality and we started talking and did two at his place. He made many hallow promises to help me and my brand and never followed through. I was pretty disappointed with how the whole experience went. The next year schedule came I saw my name and date setup at his workshop. We had a discussion about it and I withdrew my interest in the workshop stating that it wasn't going to work out. The social ramifications from that conversation, with his influence and connections with others, on my brand stung. Though I had felt I was getting taken advantage of for the unearned credit he was getting through my own small business as he continued to grow and I did not, I have always wondered maybe I should have just done one more.
