Introducing Henry, Our Mascot.
Added 2019-03-22 22:21:22 +0000 UTCHey everyone, Syon here. Welcome to our first blog post! These will be accessible to all of our patrons and will usually feature in-depth updates about the progress of our announced projects.
Today's blog is going to be a little different, though. You may have seen the dour-looking girl with the bowl cut on our social media pages before (including this Patreon page). That's Henry, our mascot, and also a character from Same as it Ever Was. I felt like it would be appropriate if our first post was about her, since I feel like what Henry represents is vital to the the philosophy and outlook of the studio. Bear with me as I try to navigate around spoilers and surprises.

So the first thing you ought to know about Henry is that she's not... human, per se. In fact, the little girl you usually see her as is more of a shell that she puppeteers (albeit one that she's particularly attached to) rather than her true form. This is fine, as it allows Henry to interact with humans, beings she has a fondness (and obligation) for.
Unfortunately, Henry is a bit lost when it comes to human interaction, often coming off as deadpan and detached, when in reality she's kind and gentle. This is because she doesn't articulate her thoughts the same way you or I do. She's an empath, meaning she can feel the emotions of others, and as a result this is how she generally thinks. So, for example, if a car was about to hit her, Henry wouldn't think "Oh, I need to get out of the way," she would instead simultaneously feel the driver's panic as well as her own fear. This ability has its limits, but it determine everything about how Henry interacts with the world around her.

Without going into spoilers, Henry can best be described as "an agent of human consciousness," and maybe even more accurately, "a personification of empathy." If that sounds weird, it's because it is. If reading that reminds you of National Park Girls, then you're definitely on the right track. Henry has an unearthly love and fascination with mankind and all its quirks and flaws. That's why I felt like she would be the perfect mascot for us. She's strange, but she can find the charm and goodness in anyone.
So what exactly is Henry? Guess you'll have to read Same as it Ever Was to find out. But for now, you can call her an angel -- that's how she describes it, and maybe that's just what she is.
