Sensational comment. My mum and your mum (at least in the mid-90s) would've got on like a house on fire, as mine's a massive fan of Ross Kemp. She has yet to see him in real life and discover he's surprisingly short (or red) though, but I did paint a picture of him for her birthday once, which ended up in an art show that was attended by Michelle Bass from Big Brother 5.

I saw Steve/Phil irl, browsing the shelves of an antiques shop in Cornwall one summer in the mid-90's. He looked red and depressed. My mum had thought he was "quite dishy" at the time (along with OG Morse), but was really not having it up close. After we left the premises and were out of his (probably quite hard) earshot, she spent the next hour banging on about how short he was. She then spent a few weeks pulling "urgh" faces whenever he'd pop up on telly. This seemed to exorcise the east-end incubus, and she soon moved her sights onto a recently wet Colin Firth, like a moist middle aged rat up up a floppy maned, handsome posho drainpipe. Out of the three, if I'd had to have picked one to be my new dad, it would have been Thaw in a heartbeat.
