Umibozu didnt find the cure. he was only able to keep prolonging her life by finding her those crystals but they were hard to find. i believe it was explained in the manga but for some reason was left out of the anime. She could only survive by staying on Kouan but her family could not live there which is why she chose to die by their side ratber

yeah, Umibozou really sucks at parenting... but I guess it's kinda expected from a guy like him, who did nothing but alien hunting and fighting for all of his life before he met Kouka
in regards to you comparing Takasugi and Kamui
as I view Takasugi, he's hatred for Gintoki is rather different from Kamui's hatred for his father
I would even go as far as claim that Takasugi doesn't really hate Gintoki. Well, at least he doesn't hate him more than he hates himself for being so weak he could only watch when Gintoki was forced to kill Shoyou to save them. During their fight Gintoki said to Takasugi that he, Takasugi, sought that kind of revenge that would only hurt him more than cutting himself which essentially means that if he'd killed Gintoki there he would have suffered even more. Another thing that I caught rewatching that episode with you is when Takasugi is saying to Gintoki to not avert his eyes and avenge sensei like he would be okay with Gintoki avenging Shoyou by kill him because in his eyes he blames himself for being not strong enough and making Gintoki bear that cross alone
so basically Takasugi just hates himself which on the surface manifests in his hatred of Gintoki since he is his 'alter ego', and his desire for destruction comes not necessarily from his desire to actually destroy the world but rather himself
at least it's my personal take on Takasugi (Takasugi before the fight, he's changing now)
in case of Kamui, though, I think at first as a child he also blamed himself for being too weak he couldn't save his mother, but he blames Umibozou even more, and, honestly, he has every reason to do so from his point of view. Kamui isn't seeking that kind of destruction Takasugi sought, but in the end they are both really hurt individuals who can't move on from their losses, and it's tragically beautiful
oops, I accidentally wrote too much... I'm sorry, but I just deeply love those two :)
p.s. Abuto is really an amazing character!
Can't wait for the next episode. It is one of my favourites from this arc and the whole series in general.
