Last week we spoke with the Antares factory and got some really great news! Our new port rudder was ready to ship and would soon be on it’s way to Grenada! They also gave us some ‘not so’ great news which was the total cost. The rudder would be $4100.00, not including shipping. It took a few days before we found out shipping costs which would be an additional $2100.00. This is a pretty major deal.
I know it’s an absurd amount of money but it’s a very important part of a boat and it’s shipping from Argentina…So it is what it is. We’re thankful that it was only one rudder needing replacement, not both!
Fast forward one week and we’re watching our new rudder (via tracking updates) travel the globe. It left Argentina, traveled to Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany and the UK. This thing is getting some serious miles before even getting wet!
It’s now left London and hopefully making its way to Grenada some point over the next day or two. The tracker is predicting it will arrive in Grenada today…We will see!
The boat yard will install the rudder once it arrives. After the rudder is successfully installed (fingers crossed), we’ll move forward with bottom paint. We’re aiming for an approximate March 1st departure. Which leaves us with roughly two weeks to get the rudder on, the bottom painted and our girl splashed so we can take off. Everything else is complete so as long as we don’t have any unexpected issues, we should be good to go!
We weren’t expecting this major refit with the boat but that’s boating life! Stay tuned!!
