Making water from the sea!

We've had this baby sitting here pickled (I'm not sure what that means other than Jeremiah says it lol)..Basically preserved I think! When we bought the Lazy Gecko, the membrane to our watermaker was at the factory, it had been professionally preserved. They wouldn't keep it there since we weren't the original buyers of the unit so we had it shipped to us.

Jeremiah installed it and taped it all off. Then we proceeded to use the watermakers original through hull for our AC unit that we had to install. This was a priority because of the baby and dogs, it was around the hottest time of the year. So the Watermaker got put on hold. 

Another reason was that we were in the ICW a lot and the water there has a lot of stuff in it. Putting cleaner water through the unit will make it last longer. So we waited. Until now! 

Now that we're in cleaner water and offshore much more, Jeremiah got busy. He checked out our two water tanks to be sure they were very clean and got her installed. He installed two Y valves. One at the through hull and another after both the Watermaker and AC unit. That way we can share the inlet and outlet for water! The only thing we can't do is run both at the same time...but that's not a problem.

At 800psi the unit is making between 5 and 6 gallons of fresh water an hour. We run it everyday for one hour for right now, it dumps it's pure yummyness into our forward tank so that has now become our dedicated drinking water tank. After we get through this "near the dock" exercise of the unit, we will run it for 30 minutes each day. It tastes perfect! Like bottled water! The middle tank is our "everything else" tank...dishes...etc. 

It is an amazing feeling when you're making your own purified water on your boat. Jeremiah will be addressing the unit and installation on an upcoming video but feel free to ask any questions you have in the meantime!
