Mandy owes nobody anything, least of all us muppets, but I think you might have misread this one cause this is not what i was saying. I was talking specifically about my own replies to Mandy's reply, and I don't want to add more work for her and make the comments more of a chore for her if she is only being polite or feels obliged to try to reply to us - or to feel silly about talking to myself if she won't see my answers. A simple request for information from an awkward idiot, nothing more. I probably could have phrased it better but it was about 5am and I couldnt be arsed over thinking it to be honest. No worries tho pal. Hopefully Mandy understood where I was coming from and it's all good. π

But even in primary school they prepped us for that stuff when we had one, so we could do better. And as you say Carl, you just need to do one or two and you learn the kinds of things to look out for. I don't think you're necessarily more intelligent because of it tho. Do we need em?

IQ tests have their use, but its not as straight forward than its cracked up to be. Also, intelligence isnt equal to success in life.

In Junior School (8 to 10 years old) my teacher gave me an IQ test and it was rated at 141. In the last year of that school I was put in advanced classes on a Friday afternoon instead of doing P.E. but i'd rather have been running around a pitch playing sports. Many years of drinking beer has probably lowered my IQ to that of a cabbage though. lol

I just checked to see if Self is still alive, and noticed that he is also a professor at Brunel University - the same university where Karl was earlier in the programme. But I think your instincts are sound - he used to be quite dry and amusing but some years ago his humour turned quite dark and a little weird...

With each of the people he met in this, he intentionally overplayed himself at the end of each conversation for effect. It's TV. He knows how to make good radio and good TV. He was head of production at XFM. No complete idiot gets put in that role. He has his schtick. He's not that bright, for sure, he doesn't have qualifications, but he's no fool, and he's certainly not as stupid as he portrays himself. He has a very dry sense of humour, and he uses it. The more times you listen to all the XFM shows (I have about 20x each and every one, I listen to them daily for last 8 years when going to sleep, I know all the words like they're my favourite move), every one of those shows were rehearsed. 100%. Listen closely over and over again. Think why Smerch never mentioned he was on blockbusters, as just one example. There are many more examples hidden in their shows, they trip themselves up like that every now and again. Its still great, but it isn't real. Karl is a caricature of himself, an over exaggerated version of who he genuinely is. It's taken me a long time to realise that myself, it's not easy to spot the first time round, but over time, it becomes clear. One of the easier but not too obvious ways to spot that the shows are rehearsed, are the times when Karl comes out with something, apparently off the top of his head, but doesn't explain it well, and then Smerch steps in to explain for the benefit of the radio audience what Karl is trying to get across. I think those occasions, if you catch them, are the most common giveaways that the conversation is not spontaneous. It's good entertainment, I love it. But it's not real. Unfortunately.

I've still got about 8 seasons of TM too. So if you could slow down a bit to let me catch up? I'm sure no-one else would mind that. Everyone is always so understanding on here. I can't see it being a problem if we act like it was your idea. Pretend like you are moving house or something like that?

2024-11-13 18:23:51 +0000 UTCMr 44. I do not get money from most of my Youtube uploads. The ads you see on said uploads are put there by the owner of that particular video. So my work gives them money and also free publicity. Now, what I do is under what is called "fair use" of using content, especially the way I do things critiquing and adding stories, so I am in my right to charge what I please as what I am charging is my addition to the videos and not the videos themselves. If I charged to simply view the shows without adding anything at all, that would indeed be wrong. If there were some kind of licensing fee to pay for the videos I use, I would be happy to pay it, but alas there isn't, I checked.

They have their own pages for stuff, so they would rather be the direct source than claiming the video uploaded by someone else. They usually just allow short clips though, but not full episodes or documentaries etc
