It may be interesting that the reason the UK continued with its non-decimal currency for so long is because the UK economy was so hugely stable for centuries. Other European countries had crises that tanked their economies on a fairly regular basis, requiring regular resets of their financial systems over those same centuries - at various points since the 17th century they all changed to decimal systems, usually keeping the name of the major value (Frank, Mark, Schilling, etc) but dividing it into 100 parts (centimes, pfennigs, groschen, etc). * *OK - I had to look some of that up. ** ** OK, I promise: no more currrency nerdery.
