So, the reason I sit here and poke at my phone is to share this link to this very special song with you. The song at the beginning of the episode that John was so beautifully belting out is actually a song by an incredible Australian singer named John Farnham. When it came out back in the late 80s I think, it was a true Australian anthem that everybody knew and loved. This video is a live performance that really shows his talent as a vocalist. And with the orchestra behind him, it's all pretty special, even the bagpipe solo! Hope you check it out, it's clearly a favourite of Peter Kay, and It seems he put a little joke in there too while he was singing which may have gone unnoticed to anyone unfamiliar with the song. There's a part in the song where the cadence changes slightly and the lyric 'down the barrel of a gun' comes in a couple of beats earlier, I think๐ค, and EVERYONE gets the timing wrong on it, as he clearly deliberately did when filming it. Respect Mr Kay๐. You may recall me, or someone with my name anyway, who knows who it was, it's all so confusing sometimes. I mentioned an Australian show called Squinters that may have been based on Car Share. It probably is, but it's a totally different vibe, and definately not as good. It's not bad, but it feels a lot more superficial than Car Share to me which has so much more heart. And I love the way they use music in Car Share too, it's quite unique and lots of fun. One last quick thing re: driving lessons. You mentioned your friend basically forgetting everything from the previous lesson. That's not really surprising. Learning any new skill requires practice, obviously, but more importantly, repetition and reinforcement are essential. It's how our brains work. We build memory pathways through the neurons in our brain which are strengthened and reinforced more and more as we access those forming pathways until it becomes second nature. I think if you are able, it would be beneficial to get together more frequently to give him as much practice and experience as possible, but ideally in a relatively short space of time. Basically, he just needs to drive as much as he possibly can. A lesson once a month or fortnight etc is going to be extra slow progress. I'm sure it's fun though, so ๐ I guess at least have fun. My apologies if that's all really obvious๐ฌ. My own experience learning a manual was interesting. I was 19 or 20 and had been driving an automatic for a few years already, and new how a manual worked, and what your supposed to do, but never had the chance to put it into practice, so it was all theoretical. I got a job as a courier and they had a car for me to drive but it was manual. They asked if I was OK with a manual and I just said yes. I'm not gonna say no! So I kangarooed out of the depot hoping no one noticed, it was a pretty steep learning curve, but after an hour or so I considered myself almost a pro. I also locked the keys in the car THREE times that day and had to have someone come with a spare key each time.๐ It all went smoothly after that, thankfully. Much love and respect to you and your family and best wishes to Lil Miss Kitana, I hope she's doing well.๐ค๐๐
