ricky has used loads of bits from XFM and things karl has said in his work

Samuel Coghlan-White

Couldn't have picked Kate Winslet out of a lineup but I love how far we went in this, plus she's hotttttt. You have good skin too btw πŸ˜‚

Josh sloan

Random question of the day. What's your opinion on star wars? Mine is it's stupid and never seen it 😳

Josh sloan

Oh god I could never have phone sex that's way too awkward, I'm not gonna ask you about that πŸ˜‚ I think Maggie was on ugly Betty if you've ever seen that

Josh sloan

Yup, I agree πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ»

Dandelion

Oh, I actually like that! But would be better use if a nice plant or tree is planted on top of the grave site. =)

Mandy Cane Lane

Fun fact, when they've sent down the casket and people leave there's a backhoe filling in the hole and also crushing the casket so the earth comes in and is packed. I don't remember if it's because otherwise the earth would drop later etc. So I assume there are nutrients from the body getting into the soil packed on top of it.

Dandelion

Haha, ohhh! Never thought of her jewlery! Cool stuff. πŸ€ͺ And I have nothing to regulate the temp in my room now so since it is cold I sleep full on bundled up and have my trusty personal little siamese heater to hug!

Mandy Cane Lane

Hi Mandy 1:29 Jammies? Could you *be* any more cutesy? I bought a Victorian nightgown to try out last year, Ebenezer Scrooge style, very liberating yet constrictive at the same time! There’s not enough slack to part your legs very wide, yet it’s very airy, if you know what I mean πŸ˜„ Yes it has the cuffs and collars, but they’re for aesthetics more than anything else. When you have a wall mounted air-con unit to regulate the bedroom temperature, and a BedJet climate system to regulate the temperature and humidity under the duvet, the sleeping conditions are exactly the same every night of the year 😁 Wear just enough to soak up the sweat and keep the sheets fresh for longer! 5:46 Ricky Gervais has a background in philosophy, he enjoys thinking about the big philosophical questions, and likes to weave thought provoking mini Socratic dialogues into his scripts. You’re right, Ashley Jensen’s playing the part of Karl, being interrogated about her understanding of moral issues etc. I remember several more dialogues in β€œAfter Life” and of course his film β€œThe Invention of Lying” did a great job of pulling the wool over many Christian eyes with the whole subversive premise of the movie, executed persuasively via many dialogues like this. 7:18 or you could get cremated and have your ashes squished into a memorial diamond necklace to pass on to your descendants, (yeah those phantoms) 😁 We are all stardust Mandy 22:30 You looked puzzled at Kate Winslet’s hands being photographed, it would be for on-scene continuity, to make sure her jewellery was being worn the exact same way when she returns to set. Don’t we all love a bit of late night comedy? That's why we're here, right? 😊 Now me and my "jammies" 🀣 are off to bed. Goodnight G

I prefer to use a text editor, then copy-paste into the comment box after I'm done. Patreon doesn't have a session timeout, but still, you're at risk of accidentally clicking something and navigating away, which loses all input!

Funny fact that after the made the joke about doing a Holocaust Film is you want to bag an Oscar Winslet actually went and did one after this show and guess what happened?

David Baker

I was just kidding, but there's an old trick to stop people snoring. Because they usually snore when lying on their back, if you sew a golf ball into the middle of the back of their pyjamas, it stops them from rolling onto their back while asleep. I have no idea if it actually works. But either way, it certainly wouldn't work with a cat. Maybe a marble? Jk😜

Feathers McGraw

I love that I saw Ricky that way, it's hilarious! And do what to Kitana??

Mandy Cane Lane

LOL that's funny about pyjamas, David Mitchell makes a comment like that on WILTY, which I totally agree with, that it's so strange to have this garment which is intended to be slept in, yet has a collar that can take a tie πŸ‘” πŸ€”. You did get a bit dark there for a moment πŸ˜… but I too love the idea of being buried as tree food and I had heard not too long ago that there were plans to create a park/cemetery thing here which would be exciting. You also explained exactly why I wanted you to watch Seona Dancing so badly before you watch too much more of his other stuff, because I feel like it really sheds another light on him and like you said, when you see him in these shows, you can't help but think of that skinny bowieesque wannabe pop star. Are you glad you saw that or has it had a negative effect for you? Just curious. I also noticed you seem more bubbly and cheerful just recently. Are you generally doing better these days? Hope so πŸ™ πŸ€— oh yeah, if Kitana be snorin', just use that old trick of sewing a golf ball into the back of her pyjamas. You're welcome 😊 πŸ‘πŸ€

Feathers McGraw

No worries! Patreon comments work in a wierd way! πŸ€ͺ

Mandy Cane Lane

Thank you very much Danny! πŸŒˆπŸ€—

Mandy Cane Lane

OMG!! LMAO 🀣🀣

Mandy Cane Lane

Haha, that was a great scene! The suit was only good for going to a 70's themed club and nothing else πŸ˜…

Mandy Cane Lane

I read that in the Kool-aid man's voice!!! 🀣🀣

Mandy Cane Lane

Thank you so much Lewis! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ₯Ή

Mandy Cane Lane

I didn't know about Shift-Enter. Thanks I'll try that in future.

JokerDanny

Thanks for noticing. Fixed it.

JokerDanny

Shift-Enter will at least let you do a new line, you could use that to space out the links within a single comment

Nathan

The link related to Karl Pilkington did not appear as you might have expected. There doesn't seem to be a link there at all.

Jeffrey44

Sorry for so many separate comments but it doesn't let me space out the links in just one comment so they would probably get messed up.

JokerDanny

and here's Karl Pilkington's behind the scenes day at the filming Extras (don't watch until after the special): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMS37RPht-4&ab_channel=Karl%27sGreatestHits

It's funny that you mentioned about homes on UK shows looking lived in and not super shiny and brand new, because there is a future scene in this show were Maggie is cleaning her apartment (don't worry that's not a spoiler), and during the filming of the scene Ricky and Steven just told her to tidy up a little so they could film it as part of a montage sequence and she actually forgot she was filming a scene and TIDIED UP THE WHOLE SET by the time she finally realised that they were still filming her and it's on the behind the scenes bonus feature on the DVDs. lol

JokerDanny

Great stuff 😁 Hilarious to watch the reaction 😁 As soon as that first interaction with the nun occurred, where she complimented his uniform, I was instantly transported, in my memories, to the prayer meeting and his white suit πŸ˜‚ I was waiting for it the whole way through Hahaha. Thanks for the great reaction as always! 😁

Steve

ohhhhh yeahhhhhh πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ–€

TheHigh

Don't! You probably won't enjoy it, even though it's one of the best shows ever made. It's very British and very 90s. However, if you like MMA, there is a fantastic fight sequence in this episode... https://youtu.be/M-gVpD9aXQ4?t=2569 (from 42:50 for about 5 minutes) It will act as a great introduction to one Mr Blobby (or Mr. Blobby as an American would say). He is a character who originated in Noel's House Party but will also appear in another series you are currently reacting to (no spoilers, I won't tell you which one), so it's worth knowing who he is. Bonus, if you do react to the fight sequence or even a full episode, it can go on YouTube without causing a content match. Thanks, Ms Cane-Lane. P.S. Just so you know the basic storyline, Noel Edmonds is the gentleman in the green shirt. It's his house. Mr. Blobby is the other guy,, without a green shirt, you'll know him when you see him. He is a house guest of Mr Edmonds. The show went out live each Saturday night.

Jeffrey44

I know I speak for all of us when I say we love your random tangents just as much as we love the show and your reaction to it! I bet all the guests on the show had so much fun doing something different and playing twisted versions of themselves

Dextrous (Lewis)

I can't remember if that Brent music video was in The Office itself. Maybe in the series after 'On the Road'. But it's just a music video really. Oh I'm sure you'd make a tree blossom and grow well. Me? I'll end up in a pile of nettles knowing my luck :) If you have any interest in the cosmos and the Universe, I would highly recommend 'Cosmos' with Carl Sagan. He has such an amazing voice and a way of talking about the cosmos with such wonderment. He's the David Attenborough of space. The series is from the 1970's and is totally fascinating. He talks about how 30% of your body is made from stars (true fact). To quote him, "We are made from star stuff". Definitely worth watching if you can get it on YouTube or wherever. Nice fluffy pyjama's btw :) I thought they might be too hot for where you are, has it cooled off there?

Rusty Dog

I love spotting details, but my end conclusions are terrible! Haha. And I think David Brent is his 'The Office' character. I plan to watch the show in full, so have been avoiding any single clips of it. Also I am sure when we pass, we will both make lovely trees πŸ˜ƒ

Mandy Cane Lane

Ohh, I will check it out Mr 44 πŸ€—

Mandy Cane Lane

She truly is! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Mandy Cane Lane

Yeah this and Ep6 are my faves from Season 1. Kate is just great in this. And I think she did go on get an Oscar for being in a movie about the holocaust. At least that's what Ricky said when he was hosting the Oscars one year. :) (EDIT: Oh I see someone has mentioned this already...) Francesca (the woman with cerebral palsy) was just so great in this too. I love Maggie's character in general also. You an her have that similar-ish lovely, long and curly hair. What a big load of awkwardness and cringe this episode was. If you want to see Ricky in white again, check out his 'If you don't know me by now - David Brent' video :) You know that 'same frequency' thing? Well I couldn't believe you mentioned about ending up under a tree. I've had that same thought for years now. I actually saw a guy having that done where he was wrapped only in a sheet and buried under a tree, as was his wish. How cool that the atoms from your body will go to be part of that tree and part of you will feed that tree and will exist within it. It's definitely my preferred method. You could say i'd be branching out and even turning over a new leaf, haha. I found it so endearing that you had the same thoughts. Your observation about the 'lived in' homes is spot on too. Very much so, in British TV. Even going back to Steptoe and Son where the house was a mess as they were scrap merchants. Yet, with Seinfeld and Friends, their places are spotless and super tidy. You should 'detectivise' for a living. You're observation skills are top notch. Really enjoyed this one, thank you.

Rusty Dog

If you like great sets so much, you should watch Noel's House Party. The set is great. It looks like a massive stately home.

Jeffrey44

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Jeffrey44

Love that episode, Kate Winslet is a legend!

Mark Jones

Haha, very important addition at the end! That is nice. I too would like to be under a rose bush πŸ€—

Mandy Cane Lane

Someone with very fancy dreams 🀣

Mandy Cane Lane

OMG!! Haha. Love it! Thank you for the link!!

Mandy Cane Lane

My grandfather was an avid gardener who wanted his remains to nourish a rose bush, so we had him cremated and his ashes mixed in with the soil of a rose bush in a large pot in my garden. ☺️ Oh, I should add, he died of natural causes first. πŸ˜‡πŸ˜…

Tony Mingoia

Buttons and pockets are one thing; collars like that are made to accommodate a tie. Who is wearing a tie to bed? πŸ˜‚

Tony Mingoia

The amazing thing is that only a couple of years after she appeared on this show, Kate Winslet DID win numerous awards, including an Oscar, for starring in a movie about the Holocaust ("The Reader"). That led to this hilarious moment when Ricky was presenting at the 2009 Golden Globes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAweiV944qI&ab
