So if the same weights are placed equally apart, they must weight the same to balance, if one is placed 10 times further from the centre than the other, it can be ten times lighter to balance out. ie, you can substitute weight for distance and still balance. Does anyone remember these mechanical column scales once used, maybe still used! in the doctors office? https://uk.secashop.com/products/measuring-stations-and-column-scales/seca-700/7001021008 They work the same way, slide the weights along the waybeam until you find a balance, then read off your weight.

This is why Alex mentioned is was a good idea, but he would have to move it 3.5 meters further back for the pillar he added to do the trick. :D
