EARLY ACCESS: Empty World | Quick D

Hi!

Here's a brand new video, freshly baked in the edit oven, chilled in the sound design fridge and piped with delicious VFX creme. I hope you like it.

As outlined in a previous post, I sort of had to switch gears and make a completely different video from one I began working on. I tried to keep the new one short, but of course got carried away with details and flourishes, so it also ended up taking an extra while.

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

I would love a more in-depth tutorial video of exactly how to do that 3D remove if you have time. Can you let us know if you do it so I can switch back to the Tutorial Tier? Many Thanks.

Simon Pain

Absolutely amazing as always!!

Sean

Thanks a lot Captain! Yet another very entertaining video!!!

Manfred Weber

This is amazing, I can't imagine how much work you've poured into this. Incredible!

Shane King

Fantastic as always <3

Giosuè Foresti

Nice work, as usual.

Carl Fink

Is the 2037 thing a follow-up to how you said "If you're watching this in the year 2023 (and I think you are)..." in your "Grey Behind Bush" video? If so well done; can't wait for it to trip me up in 14 years.

I didn't know people were referring to this kinda stuff as ARG. I have played a few that were done VERY well for big events like the Dark Knight movie, TRON, or even 5 Gum. They were part online and part real world scavenger hunt that culminated in something big that a whole community was part of.... but everything good gets watered down eventually I guess.

Bizzaro.

(I was a subject of your piece about fake pitchback video and I have been a fan ever since)

This is SO GOOD!! As usual, your video has so many little flourishes that are really well done. Like the comments that jam against your body from every angle or when your body is dangling from your head. So smooth. Your videos are always too good! Your videos are always a public service, but this one seems especially timely. Thanks Captain!

Very nice as always! It's a delight to watch the video twice and pay attention to all the secondary little animations and gags. Speaking of watching the video twice - There's a CBB though I spotted - at 5:08 when the roads are supposed to be empty, you can still see a car driving on the top left corner between the clipped the palm tree and the large post. One thing I'm surprised you didn't mention. For a still camera, a median filter across many images taken a few minutes apart will erase everything that's moving. (but then that's not VFX either. :) )

Jim Carroll

Loved the animated bit toward the start, and also the incidental Captain D abuse in the background as you introed the three levels.

J.D. Robinson

Thank you, sir!

Shalom Craimer

Still manages to floor me how much work you put in to even the Quick D videos. Good on you, mate.

Sam Bishop

Fantastic!

David Smith

How did he know that I am watching this in 2037 but my computer is in a time vortex stuck in 2023?

Aaron Allsop

That was great! Level intros were hilarious. I love getting a little more insight into each of the processes.

Joe Greathead

Yes!

ThatGuyWithNoName

The level select intros were great!

Dylan ExoByte Mayo

Fantastic work, as always. Even the most boring Monday is special when another QuickD gets released.

Matthias Kuus

Great stufffff

Hbomb

I loved it. Awesome work as always.

In 2001 before computers were invented it was harder. https://youtu.be/PsV1x7WAwGk?t=1m53s (Empty New York City scene from Vanilla Sky. Yes, they actually blocked traffic to Times Square for the shoot)

PeteyPak

I just want you to know that all that extra effort you put in was 100% worth it! Also the scene where the comments slammed into you made me fully roar with laughter.

AJ Jefferies

I’m digging all the subtle animation in this one. All of the manipulated Captains in the game level intros, for example.
