Rotoscoping
Added 2015-06-13 16:30:16 +0000 UTCScientists should study the psychological effects of rotoscoping. It's the closest thing there is to actual time travel. I barely sat down to work on this shot, which will figure into the ending of the next video, and INSTANTLY half an hour zipped by. Also, using this as a clue, guess what the subject of the next video is :P

Yep the psychological effect is the subjective time effect. I time travel 6 hours when editing video uninterpreted.

All this is still relatively new to me so I'm not sure what's within "reasonable" frame range ;) I just did a selection and refined the edges frame by frame for the entire clip I needed. Trying to refine it (refine brush) made it kind of a mess and considerably taxed my system (I didn't really have time to go through Lynda tutorials at the time). Can't wait to see those tutorials!

This Charlie thig is not a good example as its so wonky and wobbly due to the footage being very grainy and low-res. but in general what you want to do is break the subject up into reasonable parts and do each one as a separate pass. Set keys at reasonable frames, then set keys at regular intervals like every sec or 2, then finall go through and refine everything in-between.
