I'm Alan Partridge - S2E1 - The Talented Mr. Alan (ETS21 Reacts)

Has Alan finally put his life together?!

Comments

Thanks, I’d completely forgotten about them being on Sky!

And they were compiled into a proper series for Sky as Mid Morning Matters (and broadcast) - there were then the specials Welcome to the Places of My Life and Scissored Isle (which is one of my favourite bits of Partridge).

It was a good episode.

I expect someone else has already told you, but this is nowhere near the end of your Partridge journey. Obviously there’s Knowing Me Knowing You, which you already know about. But there are also lots of 15mins(ish) shorts that were sponsored by Fosters and only shown online and never broadcast. Even if you ignore those, there are two more proper TV series starring Alan that were on the BBC called This Time. In my opinion it was an amazing comeback #backofthenet!

Loads of people over here will live in a camper on the land as they build a house. Sonja actually really loves Alan, though she kinda thinks he's a bigger celebrity

I wouldn’t say Alan isn’t intelligent, he is actually quite clever in some areas, he’s just socially inept

Kieran B

Remember that a lot of the key to British comedy is letting tension build, might be worth waiting for a little bit longer to pause sometimes 😉

Kieran B

Sonja isn’t an escort or mail order bride or anything, I think the idea is that nobody British would put up with him - Sonja is absolutely genuinely in love with Alan. Again there’s a bit more detail in the I, Partridge ‘autobiography’ about how they met

Kieran B

Lynn doesn’t represent Alan as a manager, she’s his personal assistant

Alan really cares about status (a lot of British comedy is about status in some way), and it wasn’t that he really wanted to give a talk at his old school but the fact that a fellow student he sees himself more successful as had given a talk and more importantly that the headmaster (an authority figure from his childhood) thought he was working in the petrol station which for Alan would be admitting failure. Tie that with his 2 year of being out of work and depressed and he has to claim that status back. The status is everything to Alan, he has to be seen as a successful broadcaster - it’s not even about the money, the only time he’s concerned about money is just as a measure of his success and status. It’s all so tied up in his idea of self worth. So that’s why there was a mini hostage situation, not just because he wanted to give a talk.

I’m stuck in looking after my daughter with tonsillitis thanks for this it cheered me up 😆. Anyone easily offended shouldn’t be watching any of these programmes so don’t worry lads 😆

Still ill from before Christmas and this If you read the I, Partridge book (or even better listen to the audiobook) then you’ll find out about the contract… but do that after you’ve watched Mid Morning Matters
