Yes guys, you seem to be under the impression that "the old" Countdown was something else before it was 'updated' to be 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown. They're two different shows. Countdown is the traditional show, where intelligent members of the public compete, and winners stay on to play in the next episode, for up to eight episodes. 8 Out Of 10 Cats is a comedy panel show in its own right, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown is simply the stars of that show doing a late night comedy version of the daytime quiz. The daytime quiz has been running for over 40 years, and is as popular as ever. It's actually based on a French show which started in the sixties. It was the first programme broadcast on Channel 4 (the channel it airs on), and the chap portrayed as an angel in the photo in the bar is Richard Whiteley, the original host, who presented the show for 23 years and passed away in 2005.

eight out of ten cats does countdown came about from a channel 4 mash up weekend where they had a few different shows cross over and that was the most popular.

My favourite episode of this series. Purely for the fact it convinced me for the past 10 years thar Tnettenba was a real word. Until I googled it a few weeks ago to find it was a made up word in the show.
