2023-09-20 18:15:00 +0000 UTCYeah as others have pointed out, the German cannibal thing was based on a real life story so it's probably just coincidence that the two shows referenced it at the same time. Also, if anyone wants to look up the story, just a warning that it's pretty dark.

2023-09-20 11:48:24 +0000 UTCThe German cannibal thing was a big story in the news a few years before this and the IT Crowd episodes aired. It turned out that cannibalism isn't/wasn't illegal in Germany and it came to light because two guys had met on the internet with the agreement that one had permission to cook and eat the other. They ate his private bits together then the cannibal killed him, chopped him up, then put the meat in his freezer. Absolutely grim story. German cannibals became almost a bit of a meme after that.
