This Is England (2006) (Full Movie Reaction)

Gah this one got to us...

Comments

I BEG you boys do the series. Some of the most intense, best written, directed and acted television ever made anywhere in my opinion. It's dark though il warn you

David James Cooper

Later on a few left the C18 to start the NSM when it became more independently politically active. c18 became associated with football mobs after that.

Lewis Barrett

Time for the TV Series now!

Brad

Itโ€™s not the English flag thatโ€™s the problem

Mark Parker

Gotta love combo though ie 86 ๐Ÿ˜‰ hard watch but will always cheer him on ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป

Jack

Yeah originally formed to protect the BNP from the Anti Nazi League, they were nasty b@stards

Mark Jones

Wow c18 ...Totally forgot about Charlie Sergents mob

Jack

Combo is one of the.scariest characters in movies...the way he can just flip over nothing..reminds of a couple of friends.i got rid of...and people I meet on a daily basis Some great performances from unknown actors..a large part add libbed..most went on to have successful careers. Hope you do the TV series Wondering if you could tell the difference in the accepts

I was the kids age in the film at that time so it's always a little weird watching it, so many great memories of the era, I was a mod and had loads of skinhead mates, it was a very multicultural scene with all the two-tone bands of the time we all loved, the NF recruited whoever they could get their hands on, and later when I was a punk it was still happening, still the niche groups off to one side, then it was the BNP and Combat18 who recruited heavily from the football hooligans of the day, I was a member of the Anti-Nazi League which was a big thing too and saw many clashes and the violence they were capable of, but as you point out, it happens in all cultures all over the world, I don't think we'll ever see the back of racism., and on a 70's/80's council estate losing your cherry at 12 was quite common.

Mark Jones

I think you would enjoy a Room For Romeo Brass, which is another Shane Meadows film and I think his best one but a bit less known.

Aaron Page

I enjoyed rewatching this one with you guys even though it's a heavy-going movie. Some trivia, the actor who plays Combo is actually mixed race. He accepted the role because he thought it would be a good challenge to play a character who is a racist / white nationalist

Rory Elliott

Same! I actually prefer the TV series to the movie. 86 and 88 especially

Rory Elliott

3 weeks!!!!! Mines were months ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Tony McColl

I think they should add "Bronson" to the list.

Lewis Barrett

It's why dubbing is your friend when you have new DM's

Lewis Barrett

All because of one radio crew who interviewed a bunch of skins who were morons asked them what they do to pass the time "we go **** bashing" was the response. Original skins were like you said reggae and northern soul guys. I'm a skinhead (balding not much choice) hate it when people ask those questions" so what kind of skinhead are you then?". (particularly since ive moved to the US where skinhead is tied to neo Nazism- I on the other hand am of the reggae/northern soul loving scooter boy variety, although now the northern soul uniform the Fred perry shirt has been adopted by the proud boys). I always loved the Sharp motto of "boots and braces don't make me a racist".

Lewis Barrett

Frank Harper who played dog in lock stock and billy in the football factory is also in it, I actually think he's one of the most underrated actors in the country.

Lewis Barrett

The original Skinheads were a very multi-cultural left wing group. The white members embraced Jamaican music and culture - listening to black music such as Ska, Reggae and Soul. It was only later that a splinter group formed the far-right racist scene that lent itself to the popular stereotype many people have of Skinheads. But at the start it really wasn't like.

You gotta double-sock it for about 6 months, but let me tell youโ€ฆ my docs are now 14 years old and the best daily footwear by far! Even snuck them under a floor-length dress at a wedding last weekend ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคญ anyone who has an issue with how VISUALLY UGLY they are, can S a D

Georgia

You should watch some of the making of. Stephen Graham who plays Combo is such a brilliant actor and such a nice guy in real life. He helps and guides all of the others through their acting roles throughout the movie, especially Thomas Turgoose who plays the main kid Shaun.

Luke Barron

Dead Manโ€™s shoes is a shout btw! ๐Ÿ‘

Tony McColl

Great to see you react to this !! Such a great movie, The director and a lot of the actors are from around my way and a lot of the movie is filmed around my old stomping grounds (Nottingham aka Robin Hood Country ๐Ÿ˜†). The skinhead movement over here is a lot different to in the states as a lot of it comes down to the Culture ,Fashion and music rather than racial politics, A BIG part of the UK skinhead movement was 2 tone (black and white ) and Ska music which took big inspiration from the reggae scene( Like when combo and milky are talking about original 69 skinheads). Don't know if you noticed but Combo (The head honcho) is played by Stephen Graham who played Tommy in snatch, He is a national treasure over here. I hope you watch the TV series which is only 3 short seasons (This is England 86,88 and 90) and highly recommend checking out Dead Mans shoe's from the same director .

Jack

Stephen Graham (Combo) one of the best actors on the planet ๐Ÿซก

Rich Moyse

The kid who plays Sean wasnโ€™t an actor and just happened to audition as he saw a queue and just went for it

Once you break a pair of Dr Martens in, they are the comfiest, long lasting boot you will find.

Tony McColl

My favourite reactors reacting to one of my favourite films. Really hope you continue with your This is England journey and cover the 3 TV series (86,88,90)
