Operation Market Garden went right through my home town Sint-Oedenrode where they had to take bridges across the river the Dommel. So much to recognize in this film. Capturing the bridges in my hometown Sint-Oedenrode was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. The plan was for Company C to take the village and Company B. Unfortunately, Company B had gathered on the wrong side of the airfield and Company C had to go in alone. When Company C arrived they came under heavy German fire from a barn but after a firefight the Germans retreated. The paratroopers moved on and came across an additional bridge, which was not on the map and had apparently been overlooked in the aerial photos. They decided to capture this bridge and when they got close they encountered some Germans who had explosives with them with which they were to blow up the bridge. But the allies blew up the Germans with a bazooka first. The bridge was not yet completely secured because a group of German soldiers had entrenched themselves in the cemetery besides the bridge and attacked the bridge with machine guns and mortars. The Americans expended their stock of 60mm mortars almost immediately without much effect on the Germans. After a firefight of more than 45 minutes, the Americans gained the upper hand and the German fire began to diminish. When a number of men from Company C crossed the bridge, the German resistance fell apart and the bridge was in Allied hands. And this were just two small bridges among the many that had to be captured in the operation. A special memorial in my town is a gift from the 101st Airborne veterans to the civilians of my home town who lived along the Market Garden corridor in appreciation of their courage, friendship and support.

The Para's are made of stern stuff. P Company is a selection of tests during training that is far harder than regular infantry have to go through - including the infamous 'Trainasium' which is an assault course made of scaffolding and planks 60ft up - with no net.

Boys I really think you should invest in a dvd player or just link up your console🤣🤣🤣 You can buy these films on DVD for about $1 on Amazon and they'll have the subtitles on and you won't be tearing your hair out and miss half the film then🤣🤣🤣
