Good documentary and great reaction guys. Now the 1960s movie The Battle of Britain tells the story in a different way, with a bit of British gung ho of course, but what do you expect? It’s a story of British spirit of course, but also it’s a story about the courage of free people against totalitarian oppression. In that sense, it’s universal.

2023-05-19 20:29:50 +0000 UTCThe thing with WWII is that it's still, just, within living memory and even for those of us who have lost our family members who were affected by WWII we have been so impacted by their stories and we share them with our children that it is a huge part of the national consciousness of the UK. It's not something we'll ever forget. It makes us who we are. It explains our compassion for others in war torn countries, our social and health care systems, our national empathy for those in need, our love of the underdog, our sense of humour in the face of the darkest of times but also our beligerence, our stubbornness and the defence of our national identity.

2023-05-19 12:44:58 +0000 UTCDid you see the programme on Channel 4 about the Dambusters raid on the Tirpitz the other day? It was fascinating. They had soldiers from both sides recounting their experiences.

2023-05-17 05:28:20 +0000 UTCAn incredible day in our history, there are so many incredible stories of heroism and intelligence which helped turn the tide of the war, it really fills you full of pride, another really interesting documentary is 'Operation Mincemeat' about a dead tramp being disguised as a Royal Marine Officer planted with false intelligence for the Germans to find.

2023-05-17 02:08:43 +0000 UTCThere is some of the great and the good of the second half of the century of UK grandees with just being captioned as eyewitnesses for eg. "Jimmy Perry Eyewitness age 16" , so very British!

2023-05-16 13:14:26 +0000 UTCI really wish you'd watch The Battle of Britain on the movie thingy because that's about this. It's such an incredible film. Also Hope and Glory shows it from a 10 year old boys point of view. That's a fantastic film too. They use clips from both films in this
