2023-02-17 20:45:22 +0000 UTCThe term "lovely girls" was derogatory and sexist back in 1996 too. That's the joke. Craggy Island and the priests are totally out of step with the modern world. Clare Grogan, who played the singer, was an actual popstar in the 80's in a band called Altered Images. You've probably heard their song Happy Birthday but they had a lot of cool stuff. I always liked Don't Talk To Me About Love. As makadeni123 says the singer is a piss take of Sinead O'Connor. Once you know that it makes her character much funnier.
