0.6 Development Update 14

Hey, folks!

v0.6.2 is now in Early Access with Blair and Annie’s lewds and all the other good stuff. Unfortunately, the VA for Annie is still unwell and can’t yet take the commission for the second animation of the dream and surrounding dialogue. Once it’s in I’ll make a poll about doing voiceovers for future/past side/main animations/dialogues. We, uh, we’ll talk about it later. The repeats for Blair’s solo event are coming soon as well, I just wanted to do this properly and couldn’t get it done in time for EA.

Our quest for simplified characters hit another snag, so Naomi’s story advance is definitely not coming to 0.6.3. The rigging sort of works, the animations sort of work as well, but combined, it all looks like crap. We’ll try a few other tricks, and hopefully we’ll be able to make the scenes we want before long.

We have a pretty important story event planned for v0.6.3. Nothing too exceptional when it comes to visuals, but significant in terms of the main storyline. Apart from it, we’re going to have a new event or two with Blair, the scary stories group event, and a new lewd with Blair. Can’t leave her hanging like that, right?

Maybe we’ll fit another thing or two into the update, but for now those are the main planned features.

I’m working on a more concrete plan for the personal story pushes and main storyline advancements in the meantime. The plans were in a pretty sorry state before, and mostly in my head, but the happenings of the recent months and the move successfully scrambled everything into a nice indecipherable mess. Hopefully, I’ll manage to get most of it in order again soon.

And that’s basically it for today’s dev update. But before I leave you with this week’s Wed Nips, I want to share an idea. It kinda happened by itself at, but starting with Naomi we’ve had a series of Office Lady-themed Wed Nip posts. This sequence will end next week with Blair, but what if we do another series like this one? Maybe all the girls posing as French maids, one after another? Bikini sesh? What do you folks think about it? Should I make a poll with all the proposed themes next week?

I got to this party late, and as I understand it, Yona wasn't that big of a hit upon her debut, but for what it's worth, she's my favorite, and got damn, do I appreciate this gallery!

Time Is Not A Line

Therearea lot of talented adult voice actors on newgrounds that would be great for future va work. Just add it slowly over time

I rarely have the volume on playing adult VNs so voice acting is rarely a concern.

I think VA is a good after-the-fact step, but I agree with the comments stated above, this is something to be talking about once the game is actually finished imo. Especially seeing as we've been hearing about VA for one scene for at least two months, which really puts it into perspective what trying to put more VA in will do as far as timeline. We've all followed the game this far for this long because the existing format works - at this point in the project, VA is added polish, not a necessity. In my opinion - writing and character development come first, fun lewds second. I also agree with the earlier suggestion - experimentation with the dream segments is much more feasible as side projects / fun little additions to try out, but not at a cost to the main meat of the project.

I think there's a good middleground when it comes to VA. I agree with Kaal that you already do a great job concerning each character's personality just by way of the posing and the text that VA is not necessarily needed. That being said, VA is really nice for lewd scenes, but I don't think it needs to be in every scene. I think special/specific scenes like the Annie dream scene is a good compromise.

Please do not shoot yourselves in the foot by trying to add VA everywhere. The characters already demonstrate ample personality through text and posing. VA is one of the biggest reasons modern game dev is so costly and timesunk dev time wise. And in most cases, it doesn't add much and actively takes away. Especially if you don't have an experienced sound engineer, which on a project like this I doubt you can. Not to mention the actors. You're great at showing the characters through posing the models and their various accents and speech foibles in text. Leave it there. abandon VA ideas, because properly executing it will destroy your workflow, your finances and probably burn you out.
