0.5 Development Update 37

Hey, folks!

V0.5.10 with the quest log overhaul is now in Alpha. The change was relatively smooth, but some unexpected stuff still popped up, so I had to crunch on the update for the last couple of days.

There are still bugs there and everything could use a couple of polish passes, but overall I’m satisfied with the result. The love app should have some new uses for it soon-ish, but for now it still shows the hints.

There’s another scene with Cait coming to the Beta. It should be at least somewhat fun.

And now to something completely different.

The Important Poll is still in progress, and will only end in a week, but I think the overall distribution of votes is unlikely to change much. So with ~70% of positive votes, ~20% negative and 1%  very negative...

Blair it is! Most likely. Unless all of you who voted for her are gonna change your votes en masse. Sorry, 1% of folks, but I wanted to add her from the very start, and it looks like she’s in. Still, I’ll at least try to answer the questions and concerns from the poll post (and that post was probably the most commented post on this Patreon). Wanted to do it here so everyone can see the answers, and I’ll lump a few comments together. If you feel I have not addressed a particular concern, please leave a comment here, and I’ll reply to it directly.

She will slow down the development, and it would be better to focus on the existing girls.

That is true. About 10-15% of dev time will be spent on her story on average. But there are some good news, too. The team is growing, and our overall output should be increasing steadily. There is a lot of work in front of us, almost every girl’s personal story and the main story require new environments, new characters, and many, many new scenes, but we shall overcome.

And I should probably reaffirm one thing. The game is going to end, probably within 2-3 years, maybe sooner if we really pick up the pace. Every girl’s story will be told to the end, and Blair is not going to rob anyone of their scenes.

What does she bring to the house?

At least some of you already picked up on some general thematic threads, and I’m sure those will become even clearer in the future updates. So she’s going to bring another thing to the house. And that brings us neatly to the next question.

She looks like Naomi.

I mean, she’s pretty busty and thicc, but while Naomi is the tallest of the girls, Blair is shorter than even Rae.

Otherwise, I don’t really know what to tell her, it’s probably more of a personal perspective question. Her house-costume will definitely change before her actual arrival.  And if we’re talking, ahem, baser interactions, she’s going to be very different from Naomi. She won’t try to manhandle you, for starters.

Just don’t like her look.

That’s a fair concern, but there’s not that much I can do. There will be some revisions yet, so stop by Discord, I’ll be showing some WIP pics there when it’s time to actually introduce her into the game. Her overall design won’t change, though, so it’s just what it is.

We need more petite girls.

There definitely won’t be a seventh girl in the main cast, but there will be more recurring characters, and some of them will be quite petite. Don’t expect tens of scenes with them, but there will be some.

Why add her so soon? Naomi’s and Yona’s storylines are very short ATM.

The part about Yona and Naomi is definitely true. But I still want to be done with the full cast ASAP. Let me explain. Remember the dinner events? Ever noticed how the first one does not acknowledge the existence of Lyriel, and the second one has no mention of Yona? Yeah.

I have two tasks in the tracker, one for each of the dinners, and I look at them now and then, and then reschedule them again. Even if I update the events right now, I’d need to update them again if/when the sixth girl arrives. Since we decided that she does arrive, I’d rather get it over with ASAP. And then I’ll gate most of the future group events behind her arrival event, and there won’t be 3 different versions of one thing. Or maybe there will be, but those would be fun different versions, not the ones where there’s someone missing!

Rae’s storyline will continue in the next update, we’re going to the MC’s world, and we’ll be doing stuff. The exact nature of the stuff will be decided in another poll. And there will be more details in the next dev update.
