0.4 Development Update 8

Heya!

This week has been pretty uneventful with regards to the game, but I finally got all the parts for my new rig! It’s a really big upgrade for me, especially the four-fold increase in RAM and a separate SSD for the rendering software. Now I won’t have to spend so much time crying while the scenes load in the editor or when I have to cold start the whole Adobe suite for the hundredth time after running out of memory and having to close everything but the editor. On a more serious note, I really hope it will make the process of setting up scenes, rendering and checking animations, and more importantly, switching between shots to fix inconsistencies, much, much less painful.

And this upgrade was possible thanks to you all! Well, you all and spending some of my leftover savings, but with my room and board paid for by this Patreon, it wasn’t a very hard decision. I really love working on the game, so spending some money to improve the process seems like a no-brainer to me.

Now to the week report. Last weekend I was finishing the last few events for v0.4.1, crashed a bit on Monday, then made the event outlines and started some writing for v0.4.2 on Tuesday. Wednesday was all picking up parts and trying to make them go into each other in various weird ways, most of Thursday was more parts handling and seeing if the thing actually works (it does!), and today I was doing some tests and a bit more writing, and finally made a couple of target renders for the upcoming events, still on the old rig.

So have a look at those target renders for one of the new events that are totally not final and subject to change and I don’t really know why I’m showing you those, but it’s something:

Tomorrow I’ll be moving my software and data, and hopefully, Sunday’s CG set will be made on the new rig. See you soon!
