Closing out 2021

What a year, huh?

And by that I mean... "Oof, what a year, huh?"

It's no secret that production on Errant Signal kind of fell off a cliff in the second half of 2021 (the last video up was the Halloween video, which... yikes).  The causes are mostly personal and eminently boring stuff, so I won't get into them other than to say that I think they're mostly behind me and production is ramping up again.

This current Blips (which believe it or not was scheduled for November) will be wrapping up this weekend. One of the (multiple) causes of production falling off has been burnout, so I'm not trying to rush things just for the arbitrary end-of-month cutoff. I have two more games that I'm genuinely excited to talk about in this episode, and then that will be released to the public in the next few days.  After that it's full steam ahead on the next Children of DOOM episode, which is my next priority (and I have both an emulated and physical copy of Goldeneye in hand, so I should be prepared for any eventualities!). Excited to get back into the swing of things having fallen off the face of the earth for a few months.

Anyways, enjoy the first 3/5 of a Blips episode tonight as a capstone to a pretty bad year for everyone.  I don't know what 2022 holds for the world, but I intend to make it hold more Errant Signal videos than 2021 did.

As always, thank you for your support! I know I say that a lot, but the show genuinely wouldn't exist in its current form without y'all, and I appreciate that you stand by me, especially after the past few months.

Don’t over work yourself and please create videos at any speed that allows you to feel good! I’ll be glad to support your content no matter how often you post.

Yeah, this year was tough. Don't stress too much about your videos schedule. Of course it sucks you weren't able to do what you planned sooner, but screw that, we're all trying as hard as we can, aren't we? I hope your personal life and life overall gets better soon. Here's to amazing 2022!

Haven't played Nuclear Blaze, but it sounds like you might be interested in Flame Over. It's on sale for $1 on Steam right now and when I played it back in 2015 it seemed like a nice little action roguelite. You have a hose, a fire extinguisher (slower/shorter range but puts out fires faster and needed to put out smoldering areas so they don't reignite), a breakable axe you need to bust through certain fire doors, and some water bombs. The first level starts out with a 5 min timer IIRC. You complete levels by putting out all the fires, and your remaining time carries over to the next level. You gain extra time by rescuing people (getting them to follow you back to the exit alive) or finding hidden pickups in the level. One of the civilians insists you complete a mini-quest for her before she'll leave, which grants even more time and upgrade tokens I believe. You take heart damage if you're too close to fire for too long (displayed via a filling meter) - you can restore it by rescuing cats. You gain money by putting out fires and finding hidden stashes if you're paying attention for button prompts when walking past objects, and you can spend it at shops.
