October continues with what is probably our first (perhaps only?) really scary episode: a look at Kitty Horrorshow's works and Anatomy in particular. I've been a fan of her stuff for a while now, and I wanted to look at why Anatomy stood out as perhaps the most robust of he games I have played so far. That said, it's far from her only great game - they're all on the small side, but they each have their quirks and charms while all feeling distinctly from her mind, with Chyzra and Grandmother being personal highlights.
There's also stuff I didn't have time for in the already too-full episode. For example, I love how you can easily theorize what happened in a lot of the rooms based on how they're presented in the narration and what items remain. I also didn't get into how a lot of the game plays on found footage aesthetics, and the original Blair Witch in particular with it's "less is more" philosophy. Or even how the title and lessons in room-by-room anatomy are a great way to slowly build from a static place to a living, threatening presence.Anyways, I dig Kitty Horrorshow's stuff and I'd recommend you check it out if environmental or body horror games are up your alley. I think we have time for one more haunted game this Halloween - so I hope to post again soon!
