Eye update
Added 2018-06-06 21:27:30 +0000 UTCHey gang, I just wanted to give you an update on how things are going over here in Fiji with relation to the fireworks incident. Saturday night on a pretty Remote uninhabited island we were setting off some fireworks when one of them malfunctioned and instead of shooting in the air and exploding it just immediately exploded right in my face. It was pretty scary, there were some burns on my face and my right eyeball, and I could not see out of it. We were 25 miles from the mainland and any hospital so at first light we headed that way and went to a local hospital that was a little scary in itself. They referred us to an eye specialist which we saw first thing in the morning the next day, he tested it for retinal tears and everything and said there was some blood in the eyeball and lots of scratches and a light burns. He gave me the proper drops, drugs and everything and sent me on my way. We’ve been back and saw the specialist again yesterday, most of the blood had been reabsorbed and the eyeball seems to be healing nicely, this morning my vision was much improved. We are expecting a full recovery. We still have a good ways to go and it is quite painful but now we are confident of a full recovery. The previous few days we had been debating whether or not to fly to Australia to have a second opinion.
We will visit the eye specialist again on Monday and we were hoping for the all clear at that point when we will continue our westward journey to Thailand.
Thank you all so much for the support and prayers we could not get through this without you!
