Finally got started on this! I'm trying a different approach, which is working out pretty well so far!
This is going to be an animation btw :X
The images above show a shot from the viewport and the same thing rendered with some placeholder lighting. Note how the render has lens distortion applied, which reduces that fisheye look of the viewport shot.
