Hey!
Started work on the lighting today even though some elements of the scene are still unfinished. Grass is still missing, not liking the water and the poses need a bit more work.
This was (and still is) really tricky to light. I actually have two completely separate sets of lights for the background and the characters. It just wasn't possible to light everything with the same lights and have it look good ... either the background lied in complete shadow or the characters looked very flat or something got overexposed.
I settled for the key light to be in the back cause I wanted some rays to shine through that open spot on the top and to get that nice translucency effect on the elfs' ears. I'm gonna need a few more lights to wrap the lighting around the characters though. Also the key light on the background needs to be a bit brighter ... as it stands it's not very clear that there actually are areas of shadow and light. The whole scene looks a bit too cold as well ... I'll have to deal with that as well somehow, but ideally without just dialing in more orange.
For the final render I'll also add some depth of field and a little bit of motion blur on things that are supposed to be moving fast, like the braided elf's legs and braid.
