That's intentional, actually. I wanted the hair to kinda match the flow of her body. I've tried making it fall more realistically, but thought it hurt the composition too much. The other option was to let it fall over her shoulder to the front, but that would hide most of it and since her hair is an important part of her silhouette, I wanted it to be very visible.

that's why i went for the change. still not very happy with it, so i think i'll play around with it some more

Well damn, and I thought the last one looked fantastic. This next step is in a league of it's own. Thanks for the update!

My one critique other than what you've already said you are still working on is that there doesn't feel like there is enough gravity on her hair towards the middle end of her ponytail. Seems to me like the tail should drop down slightly steeper from the apex and have a little bit of a U before it wraps back over the back of her leg.

I (personally) liked the expression in the previous image better but this one is definitely more her character.
