Off to the painting booth!

My friends, here's the completed scene ready for painting.

I included more animals from the Mantis Miniatures set - a rat, and a couple of pigeons. The dumpster with the cat had some casting flaws which had to be fixed with Green Stuff, and also the handles were easier to replace from scratch.

The lamp post is from RT Diorama, but it also comes with ceramic insulators! Now that is a nice detail, but where should I draw the electric lines? It looks odd when both ends are suddenly cut mid-air, and lamps are usually powered from them, not from an underground cable. So I made the only choice I could think of - I've cut them off, as if this area of the train yard is completely neglected and off-grid. The post will be braced by a steel rope, but I'll add that once everything is painted. For now, I just made the tensioners with a combination of 3D printing and some tedious wire bending :)

I also printed a bunch of plastic crates from Thingiverse to enhance the messy atmosphere of that corner with the trash bin. Once again, when everything is painted, I might add a bit of random steel junk made from leftover PE :)

The scene is already disassembled and the train is drying from a soapy bath. I'll start with the interior :)

Im not finding anything close to this. if anyone else sees a link. that would be great! or tell be what to search under. SORRY for being such a noob

Dawn

I actually don't remember. I downloaded them years ago when I bought my first 3D printer. But there's plenty of this stuff there for free!

Night Shift

so so so wonderful. can you be more specific on which crates those are from thingyverse?

Dawn

I love this! The details are to die for.

Jason Shiskowsky

I think you made the correct call on the wires. No doubt anything useful (electric cables) would have been scrounged by someone who had a use for them.

Beautiful intense work as ever . Loved the light post with wiring . Animals make things real . Can’t wait for the painting to begin . Think wet would have added to abandonment 🤔

John Ratcliff

OMG. awesome

Dawn

All the photos are wonderful, but the turnbuckles (are those the tensioners you refer to?) bring the whole effort to a sublime level. You said you were having fun - it shows!

Mike A.

Those crates look good! I might have to print some myself.

Top Notch as Always. Definitely agree with Mr. Garrity, some tasteful additions of pigeon dirt are in order here. Bet you already have that planned.

Bob

Pigeons!! Nice opportunity to add some bird poop on that roof to add to the neglected look. So much going on here, love the cat in the bin and the rat in the can.

Paul Garrity

Great work as usual, although it feels like the rat and pigeons lack definition and quality-wise they are behind the rest. Or is it just how they appear on the screen?

Bartosz Gradecki

Epic eye candy sir

Martin - what 3d printer are you using to get such small levels of detail? Once again - it is the details you add that really draw us in and make the scene real - not only the cat and light post, but the tin can on the track and those crates you have
