My friends, it is with great pleasure to inform you that this gigantic diorama is finished. Funny thing is, it's smaller than the Cats And Dogs diorama from Normandy I did a couple years ago, but it's much more complex. Also, the amount of various features and details makes it incomparably bigger in terms of the overall workload and time that had to go into this scene.
The figures from Dynamo Models are one of the best in terms of detail and quality. But they're also the most difficult I've ever painted! The paratrooper has so many details on him that it took me 2 days just to paint everything except the skin tones. As for those, for the first time I tried to vary the skin color on each figure. It just felt right to give the little boy a more pinkish hue. The sculpt itself is great with all the characteristic childish features (in other words, he doesn't look like a shrunken adult), and that had to be reflected in the paint job. Basically, even if the facial features are rather simple, as is the case with Alpine figures, for example, I try to add some wrinkles to make the face more expressive. Here it was the exact opposite, trying to keep the face as smooth as possible. Well, it was an interesting experience!
Now, as for the next project, it's gonna be something I wanted to do for more than a year and thought about it as a possible "new, slightly different type of video" concept. It's gonna be a standalone industrial building, but again, it's gonna be quite different. I don't want to spill too many beans in advance, but I'll show you the reference image and explain the idea further once I clean my workbench and get this video out of the way :)
Speaking of that, I have 282 files and 200gb of footage, so I have to ask you to be patient with me for a little longer because it's gonna take a few days to put the video together. I deeply appreciate the general consensus from the start of this year when I decided to change my upload schedule, but there's a difference between taking your time with a project and tackling something so huge that it takes forever to finish. I'm going to avoid large dioramas crammed into a single video in the future - they simply take too long! A more episodic approach is gonna be much better with these.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
