My friends, the hull is progressing steadily. One of the most interesting parts of this model is the running gear - it comes with functional tracks, but I don't see a reason for them. You see, the only wheels that somewhat hold in place are the idlers in the rear. Road wheels and sprockets just fall off immediately. Also, the design of these modern tracks doesn't really allow you to disconnect and reconnect them at any point, as is the case with most tracks. But hey, they work, although they're a little stiff!
The running gear will actually pose a big problem once it comes to painting. The best solution I could think of was keeping the side skirts removable. They easily click in place, but care will have to be taken as to not spill any glue over the painted surface. Another issue will be the SLAT armor, and how to keep that removable. But that will be a problem once I get to that! :D
I did a bit of basic detailing on the rear end of the upper hull, although there are still some parts missing. Today I received a package from VMS containing their awesome Hull Tex system for anti-slip surfaces. I was looking forward to this a LOT, so I quickly tried it out on some panels. The process is very quick and easy to control as you can remove any unwanted or excessive texture with lacquer thinner. I added a heavy "wash" mixed from Mr. Surfacer (grey+black) to unify the texture and make it pop a little more.
Now I'm going to texture the front end of the hull so I can add the remaining details!
