Anton Lewis AKA Dr. Hypnos

Anton Lewis was a high-school science teacher who discovered a unique combination of sound that allowed him to suppress the human will. His early experiments on his students relied mostly on the power of his voice, modulated by his special costume. He was discovered and sent to prison but was able to escape with ease. He moved to Iron Harbor and again assumed the guise of a teacher, this time in the English department. He was able to use the power of his voice to subdue and enslave many of the student body.

Encountering Superstar and his friends, he discovered that his power had limits – he could only control so many resisting minds at once. He was defeated and sent to prison again but managed to hypnotize a guard into taking his place – it was months before his deception was discovered.

After his second turn in prison, Lewis refined his hypnotic technique into a device that used both light and the sound of his voice to significantly boost his power. Soon after he was able to place Leatherboy under his control but was again defeated. He later attempted to ally himself with Mortis but after seeing the fate of Mezzmer, he went into hiding. During this time he allied himself with ECLIPSE, the global terror organization; he captured the superheroes Shadowstrike and Blackbird, turning both into his puppets.

For unknown reasons he distanced himself from ECLIPSE and turned once more to school-aged youths, emerging with a new plan to auction young men he’d hypnotized into submission. He was successful with this for many months until Black Tiger and Lynx broke up his operation and publicly humiliated him.

He is still at large. He is considered dangerously unstable.
